Hello.

I've been having a problem recently. It doesn't matter what am I doing just suddenly my screen turns black and my PC restarts itself.

I have a suspicion about the PSU, it may be about the temperature because when I play games like RDR2 it crashes more. But today it happened 3 times on desktop. And also today, the weather is very hot.

My PC:
Intel Core i7-6700

Z170A TOMAHAWK MSI Motherboard

MSI GeForce GTX 970

C:\ SAMSUNG PM981 MZVLB256HAHQ-00000 (250 GB)

D:\ ADATA SU630 (480 GB)

E:\ WDC WD5000AVCS-632DY1 (480 GB)

16 GB RAM

(Sorry, I don't have a information about my PSU (650W).)

Event Viewer:

Kernel Power 172(203):Connectivity state in standby: Disconnected, Reason: NIC compliance

EventData
State 2
Reason 6

Kernel Power 41(63) : The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I understand the issue you have, nothing to worry I am here to help, I know some of these steps are already done, you have just skipped it if you think it will have the same result.

Method 1. Do clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

  • In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
  • On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
  • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
  • Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
  • Close Task Manager.
  • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Method 2. Run memory diagnostic tool: Memory diagnostic tool is a RAM test to check if there is any issues with RAM.

  • Press Windows key + R then type in mdsched.exe hit OK then restart the device.

Let me know how it goes and I hope that helps.

Bernard

    Thanks for your answer Bernard,

It is definitely not a background program causing this, I performed a clean boot and tried out every one of them, and there wasn't a result. (Method 1)

On Method 2 there weren't any threads.
