[Windows 11] Airpods - One side louder than the other side.

Hey all, I have been experiencing this problem recently, and the solutions I found online do not solve my problem...

So I have an AirPods (1st generation) that I sometimes use with my Windows 11 laptop. But recently, I am experiencing an issue with it- one side of the AirPod is louder than the other. I know it's not a problem with earwax clogging, since 1, I always clean my AirPods after each use and 2, it works fine when I pair it with my iPad.

Yes, I have tried going into the settings and adjusting the left and right channels to balance out the audio output, but it won't work. Whenever I change one of the sliders, the other slider will always move along and I cannot find anything online that explains how to fix it.

Here's a couple of pictures for context:

Here's where the scrollbars are normally at (50% since it's a perfect balance; not too loud, not too quiet)

Here's what happens when I scroll one of the scrollbars:

Anyone got any ideas on why it's doing this? (And potential solutions?)

Thanks guys!

Hi RMF_AndyPlayz, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

This can happen sometimes if manufacturers permanently lock the left-right audio channels of their accessories. You can try a registry tweak to disable the joint volume of your earphone's audio channel and see if you can adjust them independently once done.

    • Windows key + R then enter regedit
    • Navigate to this path

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Bluetooth\Audio\AVRCP\CT

    • Double click on the value named DisableAbsoluteVolume and change its value data to 1.
    • Click OK to save then exit and restart your PC

    See if this works

What you see with the Balance settings is normal. Why one side is actually having a lower volume than the other may not be explainable unless the device is failing.

If you have an iPhone, does it give you the ability to see the charge on the AirPods? Does it check for ear seal also?

Have you tried other Bluetooth headsets? Could there be something wrong with your Bluetooth (Wi-Fi) card?

    Hello RMF_AndyPlayz,

    Please try the below steps:

    Open Device Manager

Uninstall any AirPod related devices under "Audio Inputs and Outputs", "Bluetooth", and "Sound, Video and Game Controllers"

    Restart your computer

Reset your AirPods with these steps from Apple Support

Pair your AirPods with your computer again

Please reply back to let us know how it goes.

    Thank you!
