Hello, so I upgraded my pc some months ago, so I formatted it also. After a few weeks of playing all seems normal except then I realized that Windows Defender is completely disabled, like literally. There are no options, it doesnt do any routine scans or anything. How can I fix this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

If you have a third party AV/Security utility they will usually disable Defender to prevent conflicts

    Hi Lightning-

Thank you for keeping me posted and I do apologize for the inconvenience, kindly try to disable your 3rd party anti virus protection and see if your Windows defender and services will be enable.

If not, since some of your security services is disable, you might need to perform in-place repair in your Window:

In-place repair/upgrade or repair reinstall is a process of re-installing Windows without touching any of your applications or personal files. In this way if there's any data corruption, damaged system files or missing system files on your computer, this repair will fix or repair them.

To start we need to download an ISO file of Windows 10 and save it to your computer. Please follow the instruction on the link below to create an ISO file

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/402819...

After the ISO is created, follow the instructions on the link below created by PaulSey, Microsoft Agent, on how to perform repair install on your computer.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

This process will take some time to complete so you need to be very patient in waiting until the process completes. Once done , restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

    Regards,

    Kevin B.

Hello, I have another antivirus, though the antivirus is not the issue, because it was disabled before I installed antivirus. I only installed it after I realized it was disabled.

I checked the services.msc, and I found out that Microsoft Defender Antivirus Service is indeed disabled, though I could not turn it on. There was no Windows Security Center Service, though.

I could not set it to Automatic also. Im on an administrator account. Oh and the other antivirus is Malware Bytes, if that helps.

    Hi Lightning-

I'm Kevin B. Windows user like you. I do apologize for the inconvenience, let me help you sort things out.

Kindly check if there is any third party anti virus installed on your machine. If there is one, kindly uninstall it then check your Windows Defender.

Also, go to settings > update and security > run Windows Update > install the update then check if issue persists.

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: services.msc

    Hit enter.

Look for: Microsoft Defender Antivirus Service and Windows Security Center Service.

Right click on those services and start it.

If it is already started, right click on it then restart.

Also, right click on the services then hit properties.

Set the startup type to automatic.

    Hit apply then okay.

Restart the computer then check it again.

Please let me know what will happen. Hope this will help and have a blessed day!

    Thanks,

    Kevin B.
