Windows Driver Foundation - High GPU Usage

Anonymous

For some reason, whenever I actively do anything on my second monitor which is connected through an adapter, it launches the Windows Driver Foundation thing through the roof with GPU, using around 35% when OBS is open and 20% when just Firefox is open. I've tried EVERYTHING to fix it, but nothing is working. I can't stream or do anything because of this high GPU usage.

I'm not super knowledgeable on computers, but I don't know nothing. Please help

I have a 3070 Ti graphics card and a Ryzen 5600x CPU.

My motherboard is a B450M Pro4-F.

    Hi,

I got the same problem. I've opened the services.msc but I can't find windows driver foundation listed?

Also I found I have Desktop Window Manager consuming a lot of GPU as well.

My setup is a alienware laptop with 3 external monitors using a dell dock.

    Hi,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are experiencing high GPU display usage when using a second monitor.

I checked some information, this service can be disabled or manually started by changing the startup type.

To fix this, you can first try to check if Windows has an update available.

If no update is available, press Win + R , enter services.msc in the pop-up Run window and click OK.

Find Windows Driver Foundation – User-mode Driver Framework in the list of opened services

Double-click to open the properties interface, click Stop (if it is running) under the running status, and change the startup type to manual or disabled. Then click OK.

If the problem persists after changing the startup type, try creating a new local account to see if the same problem persists.

    1. Press Win+R, enter and run netplwiz, which will open the User Account window. Click the "Add" button, choose not to use Microsoft account and create a new local account. After the creation, select the new user name, click Properties, and change the new account to administrator in the group members.
    2. Open the Start Menu, click on the left avatar to switch accounts, or press Win+L to lock the screen and switch.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.
