Hi, I'm Elise, and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

You would usually need an app to edit the metadata for this, but there are some free online services you can do this with, such as:

    https://www.sejda.com/edit-pdf-metadata

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Elise

No problem at all. With this method it would create a new PDF but you can simply rename it to the old one. To actually save over an existing PDF you would need a desktop app for this.

    Kind Regards,

    Elise

Thank you for responding! The website works great, but I was wondering how to change the metadata of the existing pdf file. With sejda.com, I have to download the new pdf file without the edited metadata. Is there a way to edit author name without having to create a new pdf?
