PIN no longer works following Bios update

I recently updated to Windows 11. After it updated to that, it then went straight to updating the Bios. After the updates were completed it says "Your PIN is no longer available due to a change to the security settings on this device. Click to set up you PIN again."

When I go to "Set Up Your Pin" it only recognizes my very old email address which I no longer use or have the password for. When I purchased this laptop I went ahead and created a new Microsoft Account, but it wants to set the PIN up using the old email account.

If I choose "Sign-in options" it requests my password, when I enter it, it does not recognize that either. I have tried too many times and am locked out now.

Doing this update has rendered my laptop totally useless to me.

HELP...how can I set up a new PIN for my laptop?!?!?

P.S. I am posting this question from a friends laptop.

Good day! I'm Raniel, a Microsoft user like you. I understand your frustration regarding this issue and I'll do my best to help.

Just to clarify, do you also encounter the issue when you access your account via safe mode?. Please see the steps under "From the sign-in screen": https://support.microsoft.com/help/12376/window...

Once in safe mode, kindly perform the steps on this article to troubleshoot the issue: https://thegeekpage.com/fix-sign-in-with-pin-is...

Another option is to enable the built-in administrator account, then create a new user account instead:

    1. On the Windows sign-in screen, press and hold the Shift key, then select Power > Restart
    2. After your machine reboots, click on "Troubleshoot" under Choose an option
    3. Click on "Advanced options" > select "command prompt"
    4. On the command prompt window, type net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter

If that didn't work, you may refer to the 5th method on this article to enable the built-in admin account: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/enable-or-disable...

    1. Reboot your machine, see if you'll be able to login to the built-in administrator account
    2. Create a new user account and copy your files to the new account(go through the steps under "My computer is in a workgroup") . Please refer to this article as a guide: https://support.microsoft.com/help/14039/window...

I hope this helps. Good luck!

If someone can't help you to get past that:

Someone else might be more sure but I believe you may need to clean install the OS. The user account is tied to your old email, which if you have it set up with no other options, and it requires verification then that should be the end of the story for that Windows user.

You may or may not need to correct your Microsoft account though (via web browser) which if it could be corrected there might reach the Windows sign in. Not sure. I'd say its unlikely. Last time I checked, the Microsoft account security that way is terribly tough and you might even need to use a new account. It might be possible to add a new email though but it may or may not reach the Windows log in screen anyway.

Really though, as long as its not bit locked / disk encrypted, I think you will be fine enough here with some pain. You just need someone to put the hard drive into a usb enclosure, and grab the files from the drive. Then put the drive back in and clean install Windows, put the files back on, and done. Should be done in one day (as long as all goes well). I believe you have no backups so that would be how it would go.

Thus, the account issue isn't that big of a deal for many. If the drive is encrypted and that also didn't go well for you then you'd be having a bad day.
