Windows 11 Default Camera

For the love of God can someone tell me how I change the default camera on Windows 11?

I have 4 camera type devices that I need, and one that I want as default. Where is the option and why isn't where it was on Windows 10? I'm severely baffled at this point...

I have the same problem like DonHammy. In Windows 11 under Devices and Printers though there are no cameras listed.

In contrast under Bluetooth & Devices the Cameras are listed however no options when right clicking. Only possibility is customize an individual camera or disable it. I cannot see any option to define the default camera...

    Any idea?

    Thanks

    Chris

When I Right-click on the device "Set as Default Device" is not present as an option.

    I found this elsewhere...

Disable the inbuilt camera in Windows 11

If the webcam is not listed or you do not see the Set this device as default option then you need to disable the other camera.

    Disable the inbuilt camera

To disable the other cameras, do the following:

    • Press Windows key + R to invoke the Run dialog.
    • In the Run dialog box, type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter to open Device Manager.
    • Once you’re inside Device Manager, scroll down through the list of installed devices and expand the Camerasection.
    • Right-click the internal webcam entry and select Disable device.
    • Repeat the process for any other camera you have installed on your system.

Once the other cameras are disabled, Windows will default to the camera you want to use

That's not changing the default, that's breaking all the other cameras until only one is left. This would prevent all access to all other cameras, if they intentionally point in different directions or serve different purposes, then disabling them may not be an option.

I agree with GraniteStateColin. I connect my laptop to various devices at home, including a camera. I need to be able to use the inbuilt camera when I disconnect the computer and use it as a laptop, but my external camera when the computer is connected to all my peripherals. Having to disable one or the other is not an acceptable solution.

We can choose a defult audio output device, why not a default camera for input?

Hi, my name is Anderson Souza, I hope I can help you with your issue.

    Please, try the following steps:

    Press Windows key
Type control and hit Enter to open Control Panel.
From the top right corner of the window, set the View by option to Large icons or Small icons.
    Select Devices and Printers.
Identify the webcam that you want to set as default.
    Right-click on the device.
    Click Set as Default Device.

I don't believe there has even been an option to do that for cameras. You can set a default for mic and speakers, but I've never seen a way to set a default camera, which is nuts. There is just as much need to be able to set a default camera as microphone or speakers.
