Windows 10 actual size over time

I want to install windows 10, but I discovered it uses up a lot of space for no reason

I have two partitions at the moment, 81 gb for my windows and windows ONLY and 850 gb for everything else

That is more than enough for my windows 7 and i still have ~14-15 gb free space

But I asked some friends who have windows 10 and they all say it uses between 180 - 220 gb of space. Like that the actual sugar

Official microsoft specs for windows 10 64 bit says it takes up ~20 gb. Lets assume over time it racks up 40gb of bloatware but 200 gb ??

What is going on here ?? Why so much space ??

TL DR : I want to install windows AND ONLY WINDOWS 10 on a 81 gb partition, is that enough ????

    Hello MrMiniGreene,

    I am Jaspreet Singh.

For windows and windows alone 81 gb is more than sufficient but please note that with time updates to windows will take up space too but if you donot install any other apps/games or store files then it is enough for updates too for some years.

Windows10 or 11 will use between 20GB - 25GB including all updates, there is no way that a Windows installation would ever use180GB - 220GB and if your friends indicate that is what Windows is using on their PC, they need to check their PC's there is something wrong with their Windows installations.

Windows manager the residual files form updates, they are automatically deleted, in 6 yeas my Windows 10 folder never went above 25GB in size, the process is automatic.

As the person above you also stated, over time updates will take up space too but I kinda doubt they will double or triple the windows installation size. Are they residual install packages that dont get deleted after updates ? Can I manually clean (delete) these after updates to keep the size down ?
