Startup and driver issues.

My hp elitebook downloaded the new windows 11 update on its own, using a scheduled update but after a few minutes it encountered a problem with the specs of the laptop and started uninstalling the update. Ever since then my laptop does not start up properly and when I shut it down, it returns back to the lockscreen instead of actually turning off. The same goes for restarting the laptop. Alongside this issue, most of my drivers are not working properly, especially the MTP driver and I'm unable to connect my phone to my laptop which I need to do urgently. I've spent over 20 hours now trying to resolve this issue but nothing works. I don't want to factory reset windows because I don't want my data and apps to be deleted.

I don't know about that but my laptop was powered off originally and when I turned it on to use it, it automatically shifted to the updating screen. After updating to 80% it said my laptop lacked some system requirements for windows 11 and started restoring it to windows 10. Ever since then it's not been working properly.

Also the solution you suggested, I could select on retaining data, but that will only retain my files and it says that the apps will get deleted. I have numerous apps like spotify, discord, after effects and photoshop etc installed, and I have a few games as well which take ages to download because of the size. I don't want to go through the hassle of downloading all that again

The win 11 update is not automatic you have to physically select to install it, and it will not install unless your system is a recent system and HP states, for your model that it is 'ready for win11'

You need to reset your device, selectin the option to retain data
