Can some explain to me why two folders, both created just using CTRL+SHIFT+N sort the files differently *EDIT- some folders have been created using the 'New Folder' option when sharing a copy of files from Adobe Scan to Google Drive on an Android Phone*? I want the files to be sorted by name, disregarding the file type. How can I do this?

It makes absolutely no sense that disabling numerical sorting should fix an issue where File Explorer is first sorting by Type and then by Name (even though Name has been clicked as the primary sort) but it apparently worked, according to the responders in that other thread.

Since Windows 10 Home does not have the Policy Editor, just make the setting change directly in the registry. Here's the REG file. If you need instructions on how to apply that reg file, see Option 2 of this tutorial.

I created the same files names (other than the redacted part) in the same folder structure, on Windows 10 Home, but I haven't been able to replicate the issue.

Let's see if WinSetView will help. It's a free utility I wrote to set File Explorer folder view defaults. When you run it, it will clear out the per-folder registry settings so that your newly selected defaults will be applied. In doing that, it can fix issues caused by corruption in those registry keys. It's worth a try.

As the chevron in the "Name" column is missing (or not shown in the screenshot/right image because it's cropped that way) can't tell how the folder is sorted. But, it looks like the folder is sorted by Type.

Yes I get that, but if you look at the window on the left it has sorted by name regardless of the file types. But in the right window the files are sorted by name, within the file types.

In the right window, file '2022-09-08 Cl*Blacked out* AHCMOM207 Pre-Start' should be under '2022-09-08 Cl*blacked out* AHCMOM207 Conduct Front-End Loader Operations'. But instead, because it is a PDF it as well as the other PDFs have been sorted separately to the docx files. But in the left window both pdf and docx are sorted together.

    Hello LukeM3161,

    I am Jaspreet Singh.

The files are actually being sorted according to the name not the file type.

If you notice the file name starts with a date which will be considered during the sorting.

Sorting will not skip the date/numeral part and if you consider that the files are actually being sorted by name currently too.
