How do I manually download and update the security intelligence file on an offline Windows Antivirus system?

Customer has to manually download (or via a script) the latest security intelligence file and copy it to an accessible partition on a USB drive that also contains 'Windows to go' on it. To retrieve the antivirus update file, the USB drive will be connected to an Internet accessible corporate network. After the signature file is downloaded and copied to the USB drive, it is booted up in an isolated, air-gapped environment to Windows 10 (via Windows to Go) with NO connectivity to the corporate network or to the Internet.

Questions:

  1. How to obtain the latest security intelligence or antivirus update files for Windows 10 32/64 bit Defender Antivirus?
  2. Can the antivirus update file be downloaded via a script or automatically to a file share on the corporate network?
  3. After Windows 10 is launched, is there a script to automatically update Defender Antivirus with the signature file loaded on the USB drive?

Thank you.

    Hi Lilianne Choy,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Since questions 2 and 3 you mentioned refer to "Windows to Go" and the enterprise networking environments, which are beyond the support of the Answers community, the place to answer your question is Microsoft Docs. There are Q&A sections on Windows to GO and enterprise environments, where you can get more specialized information.

Regarding Question 1 I can provide a help page (click here) with instructions and methods for obtaining the latest security Virus protection update files for Windows 10 32/64. You can download the latest update files from this page.

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

    Best Regards,

The Microsoft page describing the manual update files including links to their download locations is the following.

Latest security intelligence updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus and other Microsoft antimalware - Microsoft Security Intelligence

The URLs displayed there for each Windows version should remain the same, always referring to the current version's location, so writing a script to download the most current should be possible.

There's also a short batch file displayed on that page showing how to execute the self-extracting executable(s) containing the engines and intelligence updates.
