How to stop mouse double clicking on single *physical* click

I recently upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Since the moment I started Windows 11 single physical clicks intermittently trigger a double click in

Windows. This happens in Explorer, games and Excel.

Things I have tried:

  1. I have the latest mouse drivers from the manufacturer
  2. I have disabled power saver on all mice in Device Manager
  3. I have deleted all mice in Device Manager and rebooted
  4. This has nothing to do with the single click to open setting in explorer as this happens in games and applications
  5. The mouse works fine on my Windows 10 laptop
  6. I have tried multiple USB ports including ones on my motherboard and others on my PC front panel
  7. I have tried using USB 3 and USB 2 ports

    Hi Flash Steel,

Welcome to Microsoft Community. I'm Mosken, let me help you.

According to your description, after you upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11, the single click response of your mouse became a double click effect, but the mouse worked fine on other devices. Am I right?

Firstly, could you let me know the system version? Please check it (you can display it by pressing the Win key + R key, and entering "winver", then Enter), and only send the relevant information without PII in the next reply.

If it's not the latest, check for updates and then see if the mouse works again. On the desktop click "Start" > "Settings" > "Windows Update" >"Check for updates".

You may connect another mouse to the current computer to see if it works.

Then I suggest you adjust the speed of the mouse double click. Win + R to open "Run", enter "main.cpl", and Enter.

By performing a clean boot, this is a mode of disabling third-party services or software, which could help rule out the interference of these elements.

Disclaimer*: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.*

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step so that it will help you get you back on track.
