Quttera inquiry

Hello to every IT professional or techie people here,

Hope anyone can help me with my question please.

Someone from this Microsoft community provided me the link of Virus Total and I always use that before clicking any links.

My friend provided me a skiing video link that he had created. When I checked in Virus Total it says, "No security vendors flagged this URL as malicious." However, under the Security Vendor Analysis it says, "Quttera - Suspicious". Now, I am confused.

I looked through web-based what does it mean, however, I just don't understand some terminologies. I just simply want to know if it is okay to go ahead, click the link and watch the video or that Quttera is virus, and it is not safe to click it.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Best regards,

Jam

Hi Jam,

I'm Rodrigo and I will help you.

Quttera is a web-based link and malware scanner, it is one of the sources that Virus Total uses to analyze the links.

The message means that Quttera analyzed the link or the domain and flagged it as suspicious.

Are there any other alerts on this link? If not it can be a false positive.

The suspicious mark by Quttera does not mean that the file is malware, but you need to carefully analyze the context.

The "false positive" is not exactly marked as malware but it is not, is more about: it was marked as suspicious but it is not.

The other sources did not mark this link as suspicious or malware, which is a good classification.

I think it is safe to open this link to the video but always take care.

When you open the video, if it needs to be downloaded, be sure that it is a .mp4 file before opening it on the computer. If it plays directly on the browser it is OK.

The unrated ones can be ignored, which means that these sources do not have any position over this link analysis.

    Hello Sir,

Thank you for your time answering my question. I just have a follow up question.

What other alerts? I only see "Quttera - Suspicious".

If I scroll below, I saw in Virus Total that some lines are color gray with a question mark and beside it says "Unrated".

I also included the picture of the skiing video link that my friend sent me.

Also, what do you mean by "false positive"? Does this mean Quttera declared that the link has malware but actually there is none? Am I correct in understanding?

I would really like to watch the skiing video, but that "Suspicious" remark by Quttera is kinda scary because the link might have malware that can disrupt my laptop. As an IT professional, what can you suggest please?

Apologies for follow up questions. I am not really familiar with some terminologies.

Thank you in advance for the answer.

    Best regards,

    Jam
