Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool stuck at 21%

Hi community,

I’m using a Dell G5 laptop on Windows 11 and I used the windows memory diagnostics tool on the “Extended” scan setting. I was told the tool would usually be stuck at 21% for a few hours, but it has been frozen at 21% for around 14 hours now. Is the tool not working properly or does this indicate an error with my laptop? What should I do from here?

Thanks.

At 21% I entered the settings and changed the cache to ON applying it with F10.

At around 37% I changed it back to DEFAULT and the tests continued.

hello Manjunath sorry if i am late, if you facing this issue try enabling the cache to do that: run the windows memory diagnostics during the check hit the F1 > TAB and make it on > F10 to apply these changes.

I have experienced this myself with a high-powered gaming desktop PC.

The solution to this issue is to hit the F1 key to go to options, then turn on Cache.

If you've started the test, you can hit the Escape key to cancel the process, or alternatively power down by holding the ON button down for 10 seconds. I prefer the former. Then you can start all over by running the Memory app, click F1 and turn on Cache. You should be good to go then.

My tests also stops always at 21% on two brand new PCs.
Aktivate extended and then it will stop at 21%.

    • MSI with Adler Lake 1280P. (wait more than 12h) I have retured this PC because of that problem!
    • ASUS 12900h 5401ZAS Space Edition. same Problem.

I believe this is a general Problem of the Microsoft memory test. Maybe for alle Adler Lake CPUs

It would be good when Mircosoft gives the users the information that the extended memory test can stop at 21% but the PC ist not defekt!

Also the MSI support do not know this problem, and they are not willing to exceute the test on their PCs.

=> I have the MSI returned and bought a new PC ASUS 12900h. Now the same problem!

I will try it later activating the cache. (I will wait more than 2 hours maybe it continue.)

Normally a test muss give a result but this test only stops working with out any return to the user you can endless waite. Also you don't see if the test is still working or not.
