Pop-up adverts have suddenly started to come up on my computer screen again.

I have a problem that I need a definitive answer to so I can stop it straight away.

The problem I have hasn’t raised its ugly head for ages, so I thought I had it under control. I wonder whether I accidentally set it somewhere to cause it to return.

I am starting to get advertising pop-ups on the bottom right-hand side of my computer screen. Is there a setting anywhere that I may have inadvertently changed to allow these pop-ups to come up again? If this is the case, can anybody tell me where this setting may be so I can change it back to stop the pop-ups coming up altogether?

Thank you

HB

    Hi Heathside,

Thank you for that information, those are usually created by the web browser

    1

Open the Settings App, then go to System - Notifications and Actions

Temporarily turn off notifications from the Edge app and wait to see if the notifications have stopped.

    2

If the Notifications have stopped, re-enable Edge Notifications if you wish

Then open Edge and click the 3 dots at the top right to open Edge Settings.

In the search box in Edge Settings, type notification

On the right scroll down to find the notifications settings. open that

You should see a list of websites allowed to produce notifications, remove any website you do not want producing notifications and ensure 'Ask First' is set for websites to produce notifications, so they are not automatically added to the list.

The rt lower side of the screen might suggest the Windows Notifications

Do you see advertising mail in your mail access?

    Hi Heathside,

That annoying McAdee popup and others are usually form some website, that would not be named as McAfee, they just feed notifications an adverts, they change the name of those websites regularly to avoid detection.

I am now getting many more emails in my junk folder in Microsoft Outlook. However, these are easy to contain. The more annoying adverts are the ones that pop up on the bottom right-hand side of the computer screen. They linger there for ages until they eventually disappear. McAfee is one of the culprits, and there are a few others. I want to stop these adverts, in particular, from popping up for good.

Where will I find the Windows Notifications to disable them? Or is there a blocker somewhere that I need to implement?

    Thanks

    HB

    2

What web browser do you use, is that Edge, Chrome... etc.?
