I have two HP Spectre X360 laptops, one 15" and one 13". The 15" has an i7 8550U 1.80GHz processor with 16GB RAM and the 13" has an i7 7500U 2.70GHz processor with 16GB RAM. The Microsoft scan is telling me that the 15" is compatible with Windows 11 but not the 13". Does anyone know why?

I have an Acer Swift 3 with CPU i7 8550u. It is not compatible with Windows 11.

Acer is not listing the i7 8550u as compatible with Windows 11.

In Windows 10 health check of Windows 11 compatibility, it checked the CPU with a green sign, but the message is that it is not compatible with Windows 11.

    Best regards

    Bob

    Hi Steno Chris,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Compatibility for Windows 11 starts with 8th gen processors with the exception of a couple of 7th gen processors.

Microsoft were testing and adding some more processors, and did add some to the list, they indicate they have now completed testing, and no more processors will be added to the official list.

It is possible to install Windows 11 on an unsupported processor using the Windows 11 ISO, I have Windows 11 installed on an unsupported Core i7 7700HQ processor and Windows 11 runs very smoothly, however Microsoft advise you do not do that, they will not be liable for any problems caused by doing that and also you would not receive Windows 11 updates, however, everyone that has installed Windows 11 on an unsupported processor is still receiving updates.

Another option would be to contact your PC manufacturer to see if that processor can be upgraded.

    Hi Steno Chris,

As DaveM121 has already stated, Microsoft starts with the Intel 8th gen processors with the exception of only a couple of 7th Generation processors in order to run and support Windows 11. there far

    Yes... on the i7 8550u

    No... on the i7 7500u

However, windows 10 will still be supported until 2025
