Windows 11 PC reboots/restarts shortly after screensaver initiation (and if monitor is manually turned off)

My Windows 11 (Pro) PC reboots by itself anywhere between 30 seconds and 2 minutes after the screen saver initiates (I have the screen saver set to 1 minute, but the PC initiates the screen saver anywhere between 2-6 minutes after I/O inactivity, so I'm not sure if this is related to the problem).

It also does this if the monitor is manually switched off.

This does not happen while in safe mode. It also does not occur with Windows 10 installed on my PC (I don't want to use Windows 10 for multiple reasons).

I have checked the Event Viewer>Windows Logs>System and there appears to be an event ('error' level) that occurs right before each reboot. Some of the information that is in the description of the event is "event ID 56", "application pop up" and "ACPI 2". Here is a link to screenshots of the event information: https://imgur.com/a/sdiRHAC. I can't remember exactly how long ago, but this problem didn't use to occur on my PC.

I have all the latest drivers installed on my PC (from Gigabytes website, GPU one from AMD website) and windows update is showing no new drivers available.

Here is a list of the things I have tried to do to fix it (that have not worked):

  1. Reinstalling windows 11 pro from USB media tool
  2. Running SFC and CHKDSK commands in cmd.
  3. Running "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" command in cmd (this seemed to fix it once, temporarily, but then not the second time)
  4. Swapping out PSU.
  5. Removing RX 5500XT GPU and using i5-10400 integrated graphics.
  6. Using each individual stick of RAM on its own.
  7. Disabling "C-States Control" in BIOS.
  8. Enabling "Power Loading" in BIOS.
  9. Enabling "ErP" in BIOS.
  10. Unplugging my keyboard and mouse.
  11. Installing "Intel Management Engine Drivers for Windows 10 and Windows 11" off Intel's website: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/682431/intel-management-engine-drivers-for-windows-10-and-windows-11.html. This was a slightly later version compared to the one available on Gigabyte's website that I had installed prior.

My hardware:

PSU: Corsair SF450 Platinum

Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Z590I (latest BIOS is installed)

CPU: Intel Core i5-10400

RAM: GSkill Ripjaws 2 X 8GB CL18 3600MHz

SSD: Crucial MX500

GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 5500XT 8GB

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9i

Monitor: AOC 24G2

Mouse: Logitech G302

Keyboard: Logitech G413

Is there a way to discern if this is a hardware, rather than software, problem? Because if it's a hardware problem then I'd want to RMA/replace the responsible hardware.

Many thanks in advance for your help :)

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have tried resetting my BIOS. I did not have any overclocking settings on my GPU.

My motherboard BIOS was/is updated to the latest version.

Disabling fast startup did not fix it, although the screen saver activates at the set time now, oddly, but then if I move my mouse to wake up my PC more than 1-2 minutes after screen saver has initiated, it triggers the restart (when it 'restarts', it does not show anything on the screen, like BSOD or restarting symbol, it just goes straight to startup behavior i.e. keyboard/mouse lights turning off and on, pc fans spinning up and then motherboard brand/logo and windows loading symbol).

On a more general note, occasionally the problem does not occur, which is very strange.

    Regards

    Henry

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

You tried most of the steps, but the problem still exists.

I preliminarily judge that your problem belongs to the motherboard, and the motherboard failure will also lead to abnormal sleep and hibernation.

If possible, you can try to replace a motherboard to check it.

Look forward to your good news.

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

    I'm glad to help you.

Judging from your description, you've tried a lot of methods. But this problem does not exist in win10 and security mode, so it should be possible to rule out that it is caused by a hardware problem.

    1. Have you ever tried resetting your bios, turning off all your overclocking, including graphics card overclocking in windows, etc. Check if the problem persists.

    2. Try updating your bios to the latest version and check.

    3. Turn off fast Startup in Windows 11 to see if the problem persists.

Disable Fast Startup on Windows 11 via Control Panel

    • Click the Search icon on the taskbar. Then search for Control Panel and open it.
