Windows 10 - JPG and PNG opening in Paint despite setting default app to Photos

Every time I open a JPG or PNG files, it keeps opening with Paint, even though I've set the default app to Photos by using settings and right click -> open with... -> always use this program.

Windows does this after I restart the system, sometimes even at random without restarting. So I have to change the default app every morning.

Is there a way to permanently set Photos as default photo app?

The computer and OS is controlled by my work.

    If that's the case, try to restore them to their default file type association and see if it works. You can try it with .png first and follow option two in the article below

    Hi saintmoo, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

    Can you try setting a default app using these steps?

    • Right-click on a jpg file then click Properties
    • Click on the Change button then select Photos
    • Apply and OK
    • Do the same on .png files

    Thank you for the advice.

    I have tried as you suggested, and even though the Properties setting is set to Photos, JPG and PNGs still open in Paint.

    This is without restarting.
