Restoro Scam

Hello,

I installed Restoro a few days ago, as I saw many review sites say it was "safe" and useful. I used a free 24 hour key and "fixed" the problems with it. Before I got the free key, I bought the year service for one device and was struggling to get the key till yesterday. I got it and put the key in and it ran a full scan and "fixed" more issued it found. I restarted my computer and it detected no issues. I'd like to note I have Norton 360 as well and it didn't detect any issues until I stepped away from my computer and came back to a PUA.Superfluss detected and quarantined. Norton removed Restoro when I was away. Norton then restarted my computer and it said the PUA.Superfluss was fixed. Today I installed Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner to make sure all of it was gone. I ran MWB first and it found 11 PUP's in my registry and quarantined the issues and fixed them. I restarted and ran Adwcleaner which found and deleted 8 issues within my registry. I followed with a SFC and DISM to clean anything up that was left. Should I be worried about any saved cards, passwords, and private files that may have been stolen? I'm not sure if Restoro does all that besides being a remote access scam and downloading ****. I'm thinking of getting a new credit card but believe I was redirected to a third party site thats trusted before entering my info. I asked this somewhere else and was told to reinstall windows. Is this really a good recommendation? I just want to make sure before I commit to a full reinstall.

I know nothing about Restoro in particular, so I can't help you to get rid of it, but I want to give you advice for the future:

Avoid *all* so-called "system optimization tools" (registry cleaners, etc.). They are not needed and are more likely to cause problems than to solve them.

Very unwise to use any third party utility that runs any type of Registry fix/optimization

Restoro is available from multiple sites and as such you can never be sure as to what maybe piggybacked on the download

You should not use multiple AV/Malaware utilities that are set to autorun as this can cause conflicts, if they can only be manually run that is fine

    Hello Austin M9731,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and hope you are doing well.

Restoro is a third-party software, it does not seem to be a Microsoft tool. We don't know if you chose to restore your system because of a problem with Windows. In fact, Window also has Restore options by itself, please refer this thread for look at further.

I found third party software that comes with your Windows and at the same time they can pose a security risk. Because some are unknown. As you know, the registry is involved in the operation of the entire Windows operating system, it is very important.

Do you have a backup of your stored personal information? Or do you think it might have been leaked? Have you installed or visited some unsafe software or web pages?

In order to ensure the security of your personal password, we recommend that you change your password in time. And please refer to this thread to redownload the clean Windows ISO.

    Thank you for your patience!

    Best Regards,

Manson - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

    Hi,

I am quite dismayed that I fell into the Restoro trap. Trust your gut, I say, but in this instance, I didn't.

Yes, there is much positive information on the internet about Restoro. I wanted to correct the problem regarding 10016 Event ID. A website discussing this issue recommended Restoro, indicating it will resolve 10016! Well, it doesn't! But, I didn't discover that until afterwards.

On the evening that I downloaded the app, purchased 1 year of the Premium plan, I did as instructed on their site which is to call them. The website indicates to call to get your KEY license activated. But, I have discovered the purpose is to market to the customer! BEWARE!

The person will ask one why they acquired Restoro. Then ask one numerous questions about how you use your computer. They request to get onto your PC. Avoid doing this! The person is quite adept with people skills. I let him and what he did was show me a screen indicating all the malware on my PC. Trojans (that's right, plural trojan). Then he explained what those are and the conversation attempts to frighten the customer. It does!

The pitch includes the following about your PC:

    * You have no

    protection

    running slow

    told there's over a 1000 issues

    Need the OS cleaned first

too many 3rd party applications & programs

damaged or infected! So, the next step is System diagnostics!

IP address is not encrypted; therefore all information is leaking.....

Viruses hiding in the background waiting to pounce!

    Files are not found

But! There's software to protect! They offer 24/7 support with an exclusive VIP hotline

    Virus removal

    Data back up

Software installation will never compromise security

    Windows OS repair

    Printer support

    Security--McAfee

Cyberghost VPN (will hide IP address causing one invisible on the net)

And all the above for $499.99/3 years.

There is a Gold and Silver plan. He offered me the Gold plan for the Silver price.

He sold the Bronze Plan 24/7 support, One clean up full repair for $120.00.

It was suppose to be for 3 hours but didn't last an hour.

I watched as the Adware program processed and it indicated ZERO MALWARE found!

    SCAMMED!

The 60 day money back guarantee? It is noted on their site but if one requests a refund, there's stalling. Policies to abide by that they never disclose. One must call them instead of requesting via your secure email that they already verified. Call them and you have to leave a message.

Please avoid contacting this company. Some indicate they've benefitted but I don't know how they did. The app does zero for my PC. I requested cancellation of the plan and a refund and I asked for the $120.00 back. Now I am having to utilize other sources to force them to honor their money back guarantee. Their service is disatisfying.

BTW, it does NOT fix the 10016 Event ID.

This is long and I apologize for that but I hope it helps another avoiding a scam. Avoid paying money out online to those with promises too good to be true!

The Lioness has been duped! Not anymore!

I have changed all passwords. Any suggestions I might do?

I found a useful app to get rid of unwanted software. Its called Everything. You can let it load up and even type *.exe and it will come up with every executable file in your computer. I downloaded Restoro and run the fee version. And true it come up with all kinds of temp files and files you don't want. Then I thought about purchasing the year deal and remembered an article I read that said do not trust any application that makes changes to the registry and I stopped and deleted Restoro with Apps and Features and then used Everything to see if there were any files relating to Restoro left. There were, so I highlighted the files and deleted them.
