Thank you very much! It should do it.
Windows Update and HP Update no longer work, need to repair/fix/reinstall
My computer is an older one. It came with Windows 7 and was upgraded to Windows 10 Home. I used another for several years, and a few weeks ago needed to begin using this one again. I basically stopped using it after the upgrade so it is clean from the Win 10 install. The computer startup is quite slow, and still is, as is opening and running all programs, and I cannot find the problems or increase the speed. I ran updates for about 4 days, restarting as indicated. All worked fine. I downloaded and installed several programs with no problems. After such a long time, I checked my BIOS then tried to find out if I needed to do a BIOS update, but could find nothing. Then I decided to check my System Restore settings just in case, I found System Restore turned off for both C: and D:\restore, so turned them on, so no Restore Points to revert back to. Ran virus scans with no problem (McAfee, Comodo, MS Defender, and on several other computers I have never had problems running all these concurrently), and system scans (Iolo System Mechanic, and all Windows troubleshooters stated it "could not find or identify the problem", not that there were no problems and told me to close the troubleshooters every time). Nothing is in the Quarantine area of either McAfee or Comodo or Defender. Then tried Windows Update again, but it states in red "Your device is missing important security and quality fixes". I can click Check For Updates, it runs a long time, perhaps 5-10 minutes, but only states the above message., not that there are no updates. Decided to run HP Update, and it states it is missing an important DLL file and will not run. I have tried many different attempts to repair and fix both, but get nowhere. So far another DLL file, cbs.log, security items but I can get no specifics, are missing. I also got the error message of Error 2182 and one other I do not recall. I do not recall if there are other errors. Ran McAfee Vulnerability Scanner and it found, downloaded and installed an MS Defender Critical Virus Definitions update, but found nothing else. How do I repair/fix these problems, or do I need to reinstall Windows 10? How do I reinstall Windows 10 and will this reinstall fix/repair these problems? I do not have the Windows 10 upgrade file (that I am aware or can find, but I do not recall the file name) and want to be sure I do not revert to Windows 7. Will "Refresh" accomplish this? I can always reinstall programs as I have no data to lose so far. Many paths and items online and on this computer to try to repair these have been tried, including a list of procedures listed here to repair Windows Update, either finding nothing (though it states no problems but I know there are problems and missing files), or states a program or file to stop and restart is not found or it will not run (procedures from this page Troubleshoot problems updating Windows (microsoft.com)). I am guessing if I go to the Clean Reinstall page (
Perform a clean installation of Windows 10
Go to the software download page and select Download tool now to download the clean installation tool. Make sure to carefully read the notes on the software download page before using the tool. ) that I will be charged so I have not attempted this My computer does not meet Windows 11 requirements. The following are from my System Information. And I have a nearly empty 1 TB SSD, so plenty of space.

2022-08-22T14:44:15+00:00 Thanks, but tried the sfc /scannow twice and the dism once, as per the Troubleshoot problems updating Windows page (link above in my message), in order. and both/all steps ran fine but corrected nothing. Part of why this is frustrating to me, as I have used them before and corrected problems. So, should I use the Software download page link above to do this? Thanks again!

2022-08-21T14:52:27+00:00 fresh reinstall will go better way than to troubleshoot
or
try sfc /scannow tool follow by dism tool
see if it helps
