Lenovo stuck on Windows boot manager-- NOT Booting

regarding : lenovo T470S WINDOWS 10 pro 21h2 All up to date currently.

I followed a link on : How to find if my laptop is suitable for windows 11"

It talked about setting up a Secure Boot

I Opened bios--> security-->and found "secure boot" is Disabled--> Changed it to "Enabled" It came up with 2 settings it wanted me to agree on , I entered OK (I forgot which 2 settings, they came up automatically)

On rebooting the laptop, it now keeps coming up with a black screen with A BLUE box saying :

Boot menu (tab) App Menu

The boot menu gives 3 choices eg Windows Boot manager, NVMe0: intel ssdpekkf25667L and PC lan

I cannot choose any setting , it seems to default to Windows boot manager

I tried to install a new version of Win10 pro from a flash drive on the primary partition, but it won't install. It says"The selected disk has an MBR partition table .On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks"

Also tried "repair" from the flash drive, But nothing works there either

My guess is that there is a setting(s) to be changed in the BIOS ,,,, but what??

So I am stuck

Please help...

Then you didn't follow the steps I gave in my last post. The only reason it won't install UEFI to MBR old Legacy formatted disk is if you don't wipe all partitions off the drive to clear the old MBR formatting so the installer can reset it to GPT.

I gave you steps that did even more than this, wiped the drive with Diskpart Clean Command which also clears old boot code from the boot sector and partition table so there's no possibility it can interfere.

You have someone helping you here who troubleshooted thousands of UEFI cases during the entire 8 year transition from Legacy to UEFI, so don't you think it would be a good idea to work with me to get this resolved so you can have a modern UEFI Windows install? Those steps in my last post you ignored work in 90% of cases for thousands who I have provided them. If not I will helped you resolve it one way or the other.

I found the "non booting" problem.

Somewhere along the line WIN 10 refused to load any Win disk 7 or 10, It just did not want to boot from Win install or win iso files

It turned out that on top of the booting problem, there was a conflict between MBR and GTP formats, Iinstalling one on the other does not work

So, I made a Ubuntu.iso file, stuck it on a flash drive and presto it loaded Ubuntu no problem

Than I got rid of Ubuntu and put win 10 pro in --> All working now.

This could have been done much faster, If the HDD in this laptop would have been 2.5": Instead it is a M.2 ssd and I don't have a external enclosure for these drives

The fist thing I tried was to turn OFF Secure Boot , Turned back on & off again . Nothing works anymore

    In X:\sources> bootrec /fixmbr OK

bootrec /fixboot Access denied ( I found no solution on line for this)

And it seems in Diskpart the only solution is to Format C: and start again. And that is a major

    It is a booting problem

In hind sight, they can keep Win11--> I'll just stay with win10, but I need it to boot properly

Hi Adri. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

    1. Why don't you just go back into BIOS setup an turn off Secure Boot? Your Windows is not installed in UEFI/GPT mode as it told you, so Secure Boot cannot be enabled until it is. I can help you install to UEFI, or convert the present install if you like and want to keep it.
    2. Here is how to convert your Legacy install to UEFI:

    https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-10-11-convert...

    1. Here is how to reinstall Windows 10 in UEFI mode:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki....

It shows how to create the latest media, boot the media as a UEFI device, skip Product Key, delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space, choose that space and click Next to auto-create and format the needed partitions and begin - this makes it foolproof.

After install expedite all Windows Updates including Optional until no more are offered. Then import any drivers from the PC maker's Support Downloads web page for your model that are newer, or branded instead of generic. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is how to keep the latest manufacturer's drivers current. Windows drivers are rarely enough.

    1. You can check if your PC can run Windows 11 by running PC Health Check here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows...
    2. If you want to go ahead and Clean Install Windows 11 in UEFI mode follow this best tutorial: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-do-clean-ins...

Create the latest bootable media following the steps under Create Installation Media, clicking to read the link "Before you Start" at https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-downlo....

Boot the media as a UEFI device, skip the Product Key, during Custom Install delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, then click Next to let it auto-create the needed partitions, format them and begin install - this makes it foolproof.

Report back results for each step so I know what else to suggest.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.
