Login problems Windows 11 after laptop battery has died and powered off

My sons laptop (MSI GS65 Stealth Thin) with Windows 11 (but was also happening when still Windows 10) doesn’t let him login with the PIN after the laptop has run out of battery.

The error message says “This sign in option is disabled because of failed sign-in attempts or repeated shutdowns. Use a different sign-in option or keep your device powered on for at least two hours and then try again.”

No other sign in options are available. After a two hour wait the login works again but obviously that is not a viable option every time.

What to do?

Ps. His brother has the same kind of laptop and Windows 11, and it’s not happening on his.

    Hello,

Only now getting back to this problem. When I try delete the Ngc folder, I get an error “you’ll need to provide Administrator permission to delete this folder” and when I click Continue (with a shield logo on it) it says “You require permission from SYSTEM to make change to this folder”

I also tried clicking “Skip” instead of Continue, and it seemed to recycle some files. Restarted and now it’s giving again the same “The sign in option is disabled…” etc when I enter the PIN.

    This is getting extremely frustrating.

None of the options from step 3 appear. Are you sure you are looking at Windows 11? :)

Anyway, I managed to find under Accounts >> Sign In Options >> PIN (Windows Hello) >> Remove this sign-in option. BUT the “Remove” button is greyed out so cannot do it.

    Hi Paloma,

We cannot find the folder. We can get down to LocalService, but not further (ie can event find the AppData folder of the path you gave).

Please note, like I mentioned, that this is on Windows 11.

    Hello, how are you?

My name is Paloma B., I am very happy to be able to try to help you in the best possible way.

I understand that you are having Windows Hello PIN issues.

I suggest that you try to delete the folder where the PIN information is stored and then try again.

The Ngc folder is saved in the Windows folder and is where the PIN information is stored.

    First, follow the path below:

    C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft

Locate the Ngc folder and delete it, after that restart the computer and try to reconfigure the Windows Hello input methods.

If you have any doubts, follow the procedure of the link below please, I believe it can help you in this process.
