Upgrading from Windows 10 1709 to 21H2 fails

I have an HP laptop with AMD 6-9225 Radeon R4 that has never been upgraded from its original Windows 10 ver. 1709. I have attempted to upgrade it to the latest Windows 10 ver. 21H2, but the install fails every time. I have followed every suggestion I can find on the internet, hoping someone could steer me to success but to no avail. I'm not sure if this particular HP laptop is capable of being upgraded to 21H2. It does not appear in a list on the HP website of those models that was tested for 21H2 compatibility. I really would like to try an earlier version such as 1909 or 2004 to see if they would install okay, but I can not find a way to do that. When I use the Create Windows 10 installation media tool, it automatically goes to 21H2. It doesn't give me the option to choose an earlier version. I thought maybe I could get an earlier version from the Microsoft Update Catalog, but I have no idea how to find it in the thousands of downloads listed there. Does anyone know if there is a way to download and install an earlier version of Windows 10? Your help will be appreciated.

Hi gpascott1,

I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

You can download Windows 1909 ISO from the link below.

https://tb.rg-adguard.net/public.php

> Select type: Windows (Final)

> Select version: Windows 10, Version 1909 - 19H2 (build 18363.418)

> Select edition: Windows 10

> Select language: English

> Select file:Win10_1909_English_x64.iso

> Click Download

Note: The website is recommended by other experts so it is proven and tested safe.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

Your Laptop needs a Bios Update to install Win 10 Version 2004 or newer.

Greetings

Thank you for the right answer. Once I updated the bios I was able to download the latest version of Windows 10.

    Hey Paul

As I posted earlier, I was successful in downloading and installing Windows 10 ver. 1909, but the attempt to download and install anything above 1909 has failed with this message: We couldn't install Windows 10. We've set your pc back to the way it was right before installing Windows 10, 0xC 1900101 - 0x 20017 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation. I am aware of the issue with Conexant audio drivers preventing Windows 10 installations, and I read in another post that Realtek was using some Conexant drivers. I updated all realtek drivers with Microsoft drivers but the updates still failed.

I can leave my pc on 1909, but I am missing all of the security and quality updates associated with it. Microsoft no longer supports 1909, thus they don't provide updates for it. On my Windows update screen is a message: "You are missing important security and quality updates", but they won't provide them. I am considering doing a complete restoration of Windows 10, hoping to get 21H2, but I am concerned that whatever is stopping the upgrade installs will also stop a new clean installation. If this is something you have knowledge about I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

    Hey Paul

You are the man! It installed beautifully. I have been struggling with this for 3 days. I will now attempt to install 20H2 which is still supported and updated. Hopefully I will get to the final one, 21H2. Thank you so much for your prompt response and on-target advice.
