Microsoft Print to pdf can't open

Hello,

Some computers in our fleet have reported that the Print to pdf functionality was no longer working.

When they try to print, they have an error message "Microsoft print to pdf can't open".

Despite the tests below, it was not possible to restore this functionality:

  1. Uninstalling the optional feature and reinstalling it after restarting the station
  2. sfc /scannow +dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  3. Restarting the print spooler
  4. Removal of the printer -> No possibility of reinstalling it as a local printer, the Microsoft Print to pdf driver does not appear in the list (use of the local port PORTPROMPT LOCAL PORT, no File: print to pdf port)
  5. Delete registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows x64\Drivers\Version-4\Microsoft Print to pdf HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\Microsoft Print to pdf

  1. Reinstallation in powershell ->The printer reappears but the problem remains the same, error message "Microsoft print to pdf can't open"
  2. Replaced the C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnms009.inf_amd64_a7412a554c9bc1fd folder with a version of the driver that worked, plus installed the driver (prnms009.inf) but no change.
  3. Upgrade to 21H2 with the latest updates available; no change

Whatever we do, the application does not start

The DISM log shows error 0x800f0922. Please check this thread for a fix.

    Vous pouvez essayer de restaurer à partir d’un point de restauration système

    Cette option ramène votre PC à un point antérieur dans le temps, appelé point de restauration du système. Les points de restauration sont générés lorsque vous installez une nouvelle application ou un nouveau pilote et lorsque vous créez un point de restauration manuellement. La restauration n’affectera pas vos fichiers personnels, mais elle supprimera les applications, les pilotes et les mises à jour installés après la création du point de restauration.
