Ways To Increase Remote Desktop Performance

I'm currently having issues with remote desktop performance. Currently my desktop computer used during the remote desktop sessions is adequate (i7-8700k, 32 GB DDR4, GTX 1080 and 1TB Nvme drive), while the laptop used for Remote Desktop is 2014 HP with an i5 and 8 GB of RAM. While using programs such as Inventor and ANSYS the performance of the remote desktop is quite bad, slow and 30 second spans of being completely unresponsive, while on 200MB/s download, 50 MB/s upload, internet speeds. When using a colleagues, newer and much more powerful laptop when doing a remote session, the performance dramatically increased. I have spent weeks with our IT service making sure protocols and drivers were updated on both machines, as well modifying various Remote Desktop settings to increase performance. Performance has not improved, and overall makes working remotely (specifically during business travel) an absolute nightmare. My question, which I have unsuccessfully prowled the internet for, is whether a newer and more powerful laptop would definitely increase my remote desktop performance. Is there a possibility that the excessive lag, and periods of unresponsiveness the result of my laptop not being able to unpack data files from the desktop quickly enough or would improving my laptop have no effect on remote desktop performance?

    Hello Louie_stache, welcome to the Microsoft community, I'll be happy to help you today;

    I understand that you want to increase PC performance with Remote Desktop Connection;

    There are a few methods to improve PC performance;

    Download HP Support Assistant to Update ALL PC Drivers:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/hp-support-as...

    Do a clean install of NVIDIA drivers;

    Download and run the latest driver package for your video card:https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.a...

    Follow the onscreen instructions until you get the Installation Options window;

    Select the Custom (Advanced) box and press Next;

    On the next screen, you will be able to choose the components to install (all should be checked by default and if you're not sure, leave them that way);

    In the Select driver component table, check the Perform a clean installation box and click Next;

    Before restarting, run a disk cleanup;

    Press Windows key + R and type: cleanmgr press Enter;

    Click on clean system files and wait for the files to load;

    Select all files and click ok to delete them;

    Perform a clean boot;

    Press together the keys: Ctrl + Shift + Esc to access the task manager;

    Click on start and disable all programs that start with Windows;

    Restart the PC;

    Follow the instructions provided in the link below:
