wsreset.exe produces "you'll need a new app to open this ms-windows-store link"

I recently performed a Windows 10 reset because I couldn't install any apps from the Store. The whole issue I had is this basically - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/microsoft-store-app-installation-error-code/20762a4d-b1c9-4dbb-a8a1-84f5e5187186

But after the reset, I cannot even open the Microsoft Store, as well as not use any of the apps, like Photos and such. I have performed every solution listed on this page - https://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-10/fix-youll-need-a-new-app-to-open-this-ms-windows-store-error-in-windows/ - with zero success.

If I try running Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}, I get an 0x80073d02 error. I have perform SFC and DISM scans as well, but they cannot detect anything. Neither can the Windows Troubleshooter, and resetting the app from Settings doesn't do anything either. My Windows is up to date as of writing this post.

I really have no idea where to go now from here. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this.

    Hello M.Shafique,

Good day! I'm John Dev a Windows user like you and I'll be happy to assist you today. I know this has been difficult for you, Rest assured, I'm going to do my best to help you.

Please try this if it helps.

Please make sure to uninstall the Microsoft Store and Xbox app first.

    **Uninstall the Microsoft Store app:

    Press Windows key + X

Click and Run Windows PowerShell as Administrator. Copy and paste the command below then press Enter.

    get-appxpackage *WindowsStore* | remove-appxpackage

    **Uninstall the Xbox app

    Open Settings then select Apps

Under Apps and Features, find Xbox app

    Click it then Uninstall

Once the two apps are uninstalled, install the Xbox app from the link below

    https://aka.ms/XboxInstaller

Restart your computer then open the Xbox app

This will prompt to install the Microsoft Store app

Please check if the issue still persists.

If the issue still persists, Please try performing an In-place Upgrade. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while your personal files, settings and installed applications will not be removed.

Download the media creation tool(Click Download tool now) and save it to your computer.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

Open the tool and select Upgrade this PC now.

Make sure to select Keep personal files and apps.

It might take some time to install Windows 10. Your computer will restart a few times, Make sure you don’t turn off your PC

Kindly let me know if this helps or if you have any further concerns.

    Kind regards,

    John DeV

    THANK YOU!

I've tried EVERYTHING I've found online like OP and the xbox app is what fixed it! It didn't prompt me to download automatically but it did say in the settings after a reboot that I needed to download a few things to get the xbox app to work and it let me install the store

    Thank you for the suggestions.

I tried everything you said. I didn't have Xbox on my computer. So, after I unistalled Store, I just installed Xbox. But it did not prompt a Store installation. So, I did the in-place Upgrade. But that did not work either. And since then, I keep getting this prompt every time I open my computer.

Is there anything else that can be done? I would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thank you.

Thank you as well! I tried everything here including uninstalling and reinstalling xbox app (also was not prompted) and then doing an in-place upgrade and nothing worked! When I came back to this thread and saw your reply, I went into Settings in xbox app and sure enough, there was a list of things which needed to be installed including the Microsoft Store with Install buttons next to each one. Clicked Install and in seconds my Microsoft Store was installed and operational.
