My newly bought PC is stuck on the “reboot and select proper boot device” screen, and I’ve pressed F2, delete, and all those and nothing changed.?

So, I just bought this PC off of Facebook Marketplace. I didn’t really research my purchase or ask a lot of questions, and that was something I regretted before I even got the PC, because I’m a person that likes to ask questions and make an educated purchase. Well I sure did get a computer, but the quality was stuck at 800 x 600! So I reboot the device drive, the graphics one, then, I restart my computer. The first two times this works. But the third time! My computer says it has a critical process error!!! and I’ve gotten it within the first two days… So anyways, automatic repairs didn’t do anything, so I was taken to this menu with a bunch of options. I guess I thought the best idea would be to “Change UEFA firmware settings“ so I click that, and then it sends me to some screen, I don’t know what the heck I even did, I think I shifted some bios around or something.? Anyways, my PC rebooted again, This time it says “reboot and select proper boot device“ and now I can’t do anything. Every single button I press just makes it go again, I pressed F2, delete, F 12, all those buttons they say you’re supposed to press, and it just reiterates The same text. So, as you can see I have several layers of issues here, just one after another… Can someone please help me? I am a novice and I’m afraid I’m going to do more damage

yeah, that bluescreen is actually where windows was forcing me to go, because I updated my graphics drive. I clicked on UEFI firmware settings, and it brought me to this. No matter what button I press, f12, f2, del, it just reiterates over and over, I cannot escape this screen.

    Hello TheRookiestRookie,

Here are the specific steps for a clean install of Windows 10.

Step-by-step steps to make a boot disk in MCT

    1. Prepare a flash driver with at least 8GB (Pay attention to backup data, because creating a boot disk will erase all data of the flash driver). Then operate it on another Windows computer.
    2. Visit Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com) **** and click "Download Now" under the "Create Windows 10 installation media" to download MCT (Media Control Tool)
    3. Run the MCT, select "Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD or ISO file) for another PC”, and then choose Language, Version, Architecture (if you are not sure about these, choose "Use the recommended options for this PC"), then select "USB flash drive" in the "Select Media to Use" interface, then make a boot disk.
    4. Then boot from the USB flash drive, and execute the installation program.

And you can access **** How to: Perform a Clean Install or Reinstall of Windows 10 - Microsoft Community **** for specific installation steps.

    Thank you mosken,

I have attempted to enter safe mode at least a dozen times, and none of my buttons appear to respond, I have attempted to access the bios menu but every single time that I try, every single button, or button combination that I use, just causes the same message to reiterate:

“Reboot and select proper boot device

Or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key“

I’d like to preface this with some backstory. I bought a gaming computer off of the Facebook marketplace for $1100. The computer worked fine, aside from two things one isn’t important the HDMI just didn’t work when you plugged it in on one of the two ports. The other one however, was that the graphics drive had some sort of error, that forced it to set the computers resolution to 800 x 600. My computer went into a critical process error mode, after I tried to update it.

After that, when I went into UEFI Mode, I went into this menu, and I moved some stuff around, and ever since then I’ve been stuck on the screen.

So I’m not able to do anything, I think I’m just going to have to redo my entire windows 10. So if you tell me how, that would be really nice.

    Thank you

    Hello TheRookiestRookie,

Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

Let me help you troubleshoot your new notebook not working properly.

You can go into Safe mode by the following steps first.

    1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
    2. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
    3. On the first sign that Windows has started (for example, some devices show the manufacturer’s logo when restarting) hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
    4. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
    5. When Windows restarts, hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
    6. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
    7. Allow your device to restart into Automatic Repair, and select Advanced optionsto enter winRE.
    8. On the Choose an optionscreen, select TroubleshootAdvanced options. Image You can click Start your PC in safe mode in Windows (microsoft.com) to view the specific operation steps.

Then try the following repair options.

    1. You could choose "Startup Repair" to try the system automatic repair;
    2. Select "Command Prompt", then try to log in with your account, and then try to run the commands below. sfc /scannow chkdsk X: /f bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /scanos bootrec /rebuildbcd
    3. If you installed the system update before the system is abnormal, you can use "Uninstall Updates" to uninstall recent updates (which include Quality updates and Feature updates, try both).
    4. "Startup Settings" > "Restart", after the restart, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or press F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode. Or if you'll need to use the internet, select 5 or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking. Then try to log in normally. If you can successfully enter safe mode, run the commands in step 2 to repair possibly corrupted system files.
    5. If none of the above solutions work, you can try to reset the system (on the Troubleshoot page), you can choose whether to keep your user data or not.

If anything is unclear, please feel free to leave your messages here.
