I guess Win 11 N is not really viable if there are dependencies to important background features...
At Game startup: 'You'll need a new app to open this ms-gamingoverlay link' with clean Win11 N setup
Dear Microsoft Support Team, dear community,
I recently did a clean installation of Win11 on my PC. I went with the N version, so no unnecessary Apps from Microsoft.
The issue I have is, once I start a game from Steam, a Popup appears:
I already did some Online Research and found out, that this is related to the X Box Game Bar.
However, I believe that the Game Bar is not installed in the N edition of Windows. Xbox does not appear in my Apps & features list.
I can't figure out, why the moment a Game is started, my PC wants to open the gamingoverlay. Steam should not be responsible as it has its own overlay (which works fine).
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?
Best
Pieter

I am Dave, I will help you with this.
For gaming features in Windows 11 N you will need to install the Media Feature Pack and then Gaming will appear in the Settings app.
Open the Settings App, then go to Apps - Optional Features - Add an Optional Feature and from there, install the Media Feature Pack
Then, restart (not shut down) your PC.

Yes that is correct, the Xbox Game Bar does need to be running in the background.
