I've tried turning the aforementioned setting on, but when playing offline music on my PC with it on, the music doesn't get added to the WMP Library. So what does this setting do?

"Directly from File explorer" means playing the music file from the location it is saved in by double clicking on it.

I am not sure how a screenshot of the offline music being added can be taken. It would simply show a screenshot of the location under the section "where to look for music"

No the media does not need to be in the default music location.

    Hello SamEbersman,
    I am Jaspreet.
The option automatically adds the file path of the offline music files to the library not the actual files. Once you play the files directly from file explorer they are added to windows media player library so you don’t need to manually add the folder/file path.

Do the media files need to be in the default music location?

And if you have a screenshot of the file path of the offline music files being added, that would be amazing.

"...directly from file explorer..." what does that mean?
