Welcome Screen and New User Accounts Settings incorrectly shows English (United Kingdom) as the Display language which is set to English (Australia)

Greets all,

I am running Windows 10 Version 21H2.

I believe the following is a bug.

My Display Language found in Settings/Time & Language/Language is set to English (Australia) however if I go to Control Panel/Region/Administrative and select the Copy Settings button in the panel Welcome Screen and New User Accounts panel it shows English (United Kingdom) as my Display language.

This is obviously not correct.

I have checked my other computers and it the same is reflected so it is not isolated to one computer.

Regards,

Flavio

    Hello LuizScruz,

    I disagree as all my computers were originally setup from scratch with a unformatted space as the destination so I believe the problem also happens with a clean install.

    I would not be willing to reinstall Windows again from scratch as I have installed a lot of program and customised my settings and the payback of an inconsequential setting reflecting correctly is just not worth it.

    As I see the same problem on 3 of my computers that I have checked (possibly more in the household) I believe it is a bug.

    The bug being that the Control Panel/Region/Administrative incorrectly shows English (United Kingdom) as the Display language when the Display Language in the Setting/Language area is set to English (Australia).

    I posted this thread merely to highlight a bug in Windows 10 in case Microsoft would fix it (unlikely) but more so to provide a thread that could be found if any other Australian Windows 10 users encounter the same problem and search for an answer. This way they can rule out personal delusion as a cause!

    It is not the first bug I have found with Windows 10 and will not be the last.

    I have said this before but will say again Windows 10 is the flakiest Windows I have experienced and I have been a Windows user since Windows 3.1!

    Regards,

    Flavio

    Hello Flavio, welcome to the Microsoft community, I'll be happy to help you today;

    You probably have two languages defined as "Display Languages";

    Do you wish to have the display language English (Australia)?

    Initially I recommend that you remove the English (UK) language;

    Press Windows key + i and go to Time and Language;

    Click Language;

    Under Preferred Languages, leave English (Australia) at the top;

    Select English (UK) language and click Remove;

    Now go to Administrative Language Settings;

    Click on Change system locale;

    Set the desired location;

    Click on Copy settings and check the options: Welcome screen and system accounts and New user accounts;

    Click OK;

    Restart the PC and check if the language is correct;

    Hope it helps, see you soon!

    Hello Astralmine,

    Thanks for your post.

    But is this why there is a discrepancy between the Display Language set in Settings/Time & Language/Language and the Display Language in Control Panel/Region/Administrative????

    Applying your comment to the logic Windows is using then the Display Language in Control Panel/Region/Administrative is picking up the English (United Kingdom) Local Experience Pack, setting it to English (United Kingdom) whilst the Display Language set in Settings/Time & Language/Language is stating the more specific variant of the English (United Kingdom) Local Experience Pack to English (Australia) as the Display Language.

    Shouldn't both sections display the same exact language, even if the language is a variant of the English (United Kingdom) Local Experience Pack??

    If the Display Language in Control Panel/Region/Administrative is set to English (United Kingdom) then one would assume that any new users added to the system would adopt English (United Kingdom) as the default Display Language even though English (Australia) is the Display Language set in Settings/Time & Language/Language....

    It still looks like a bug to me. Or at the least a Design issue.

    Regards,

    Flavio

    Dear Flavio,if you go to Settings > Time & Language > Language, English (UK) language is not displayed in preferred languages?

    Try to install the English (UK) language pack again;

    Go to Settings > Time and Language > Language;

    Click Add a language;

    Select English (UK) and click Next;

    Check the option Set as my display language;

    Click Install;

    Now select English (Australia) language and click Remove;

    Restart the PC;

    Go back to Settings > Time and Language > Language;

    Click Add a language;

    Select English (Australia) and click Next;

    Check the option Set as my display language;

    Click Install;

    Select English (UK) language and click Remove;

    Check that the language is now correct;

    If that doesn't work, I recommend that you reinstall Windows in the desired language;

    See you soon!

    Hello LuizScruz,

    Thanks for your input.

    I have 2 display languages selectable which is English (Australia) and English (United States) however I only have one language pack installed which is English (Australia).

    There is no English (United Kingdom) available in Display Language and the English (United Kingdom) language pack is not installed.

    My system locale in Administrative Language Settings, or the same place which is Control Panel/Region/Formats, is set to English (Australia).

    Regards,

    Flavio
