How do I close a window that is stuck open as "not responding" after taskkill and end task already closed the program?

I was recently playing a game on steam which is running on task manager as "sonic2app.exe" and it stopped responding so I went to task manager to end task. I closed steam as well which forces all steam games that are running to stop running immediately, but the game app window is still stuck open on the "not responding" screen and when I use the command "taskkill/ Im sonic2app.exe /f" I get the return message "there is no running instance of the task" but still shows the app as "not responding" on desktop and in task manager with "end task" being unresponsive/ not ending the task.

Is there a way to fix this without restarting my pc?

    Hello,

I am here to help with your issue...

So, if the app is a MS Store app, then you can just follow the instructions below:

    1. Go into Settings (Windows key + i)
    2. Click Apps
    3. Click on the app you want to close in the list
    4. Scroll down, and click terminate.

If that doesn't work, then try this:

    1. Press Ctrl + alt + del
    2. Click "Task Manager"
    3. Right click on the app you want to close in the list
    4. Click "Go to Details"
    5. Right click on the selected item in the Details list
    6. Click "End process tree"

If it is a desktop app:

    1. Click Start or the Windows Key
    2. Scroll down to "Windows administrative tools"
    3. Click on "Windows administrative tools"
    4. Click on "Details"
    5. Find your process on the right pane of the Details app
    6. Right click on it
    7. Click "Restart"

    I hope this helps

    Hi Jay Trips,

It must have been a hard crash in the game. Sometimes the only way to get a response is simple to bite the bullet and do a reboot of your system.

    Hope this helps
