That's correct Donna. It is a one-way switch. Once you switch out you can't switch back. In order to use your Canon printer, I am afraid you have no other option but to switch out of S mode. The instruction of switching out is here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/swi...
Installing MX920 printer driver in S mode
I just got a new Windows 11 laptop running in S mode. I can't install the drivers I need to use my Canon MX-920 printer. I realize the problem is that it is in S mode. I'm told that if I take it out of S mode. If I do that, I can't return it back and then I will lose the security and ease of use that S mode offers. I have tried uninstalling the printer and then installing the drivers from the Canon site, but Windows wouldn't allow this. It is so weird that this is that big of a problem. Any help is appreciated as I really don't want to get another printer just because I can't get a driver that will install in S mode

If you are a careful user and always download from reputable sources, you will be fine using the non-S mode.

If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to switch out of S mode. Switching out of S mode is one-way. If you make the switch, you won't be able to go back to Windows 10 in S mode. There's no charge to switch out of S mode.

You wouldn’t lose any security for switching out of S mode. It’s simply a mode that only allows you to install Microsoft software. Since printer driver is from Canon it’s considered third party.
With that being said Canon does have a few models that are compatible with S mode. But I don’t think yours is one of them.
I’m afraid you will have to switch out of S mode on order to use the printer. You still have the same Windows security. The only difference is that you won’t be restricted to Microsoft software only.
