Video play back colours extremely contrasted and do not have permission to edit.

Hello, I've run into this weird bug where my recorded videos from Nvidia shadowplay when being played back on the windows film & TV player have become extremely over-saturated. As you can see below.

When I create a slow-mo clip of the video the colours return back to how they should be, but then once this clip is saved, it reverts back to looking like the image on the right.

I have a second weird bug that when I try to trim and save a video as a copy it says I do not have the permissions to do this, this used to work but has suddenly become something I cannot do which is why I'm using the "slow mo" feature instead.

I hope to fix both issues with your help.

HDR is disabled just for further info.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

I mean, this is a problem caused by shadowplay, not by windows film&TV player. This problem also exists in the early shadowplay and NVIDIA drivers.

You can try to use other recording software to check whether the problem exists. If the recording of other software is normal, it is a problem with shadowplay.

On the other hand, the encoding and decoding problems of Windows film&TV player will also cause this problem. You can also try other video editing software.

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

    I'm glad to help you.

From your description, it seems that the coding problems recorded by Nvidia Shadowplay are more likely to cause this.

If the SDR game forcibly turns on HDR, a similar color exception will occur. The video encoding information recorded by Shadowplay uses a strange combination. The BT601 color matrix is used with the full (0-255) color gamut to record the video, and the full color range is not written into the metadata part of the file. It may cause some recorded videos to have abnormal colors in some programs.

This problem may occur because the Windows film&TV player encoder may not be compatible.

You can first try to close the hdr when recording games to check whether the problem still exists. Or replace a video editor, such as Adobe Pr, to check whether the same issue occurs.

Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Best regards

I do not have HDR enabled though, the picture i posted is the exact same footage, in the same programme but just with a clip being created. No HDR is enabled on windows or ingame.
