Missing BIOS Options ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4 no option to change SATA mode

For some reason on my ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4 motherboard I am missing the option to change. I have also already updated the BIOS, this issue persisted before and after the update. I can't boot into Windows because this issue is forcing all my drive to be in RAID since I am unable to configure them. Please help! The top image is my BIOS, the second is what it should look like, I have also contacted Asus support, they also said that those options should be there.

So I just ran into this same issue with the same motherboard, ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, but with only a single Samsung 980 Pro installed. The 980 Pro, as a single drive, was being forced under RAID and did not show up as selectable for a Windows 10 64-bit install.

Go to: Advanced\System Agent (SA) Configuration\VMD Setup Menu

By default VMD is Enable VMD Controller [Enabled]. Set Enable VMD Controller [Disabled]

This will allow the bios to configure the drive correctly and allow windows to be installed.

VMD is for use with Intel Xeon Processors. The 12700k installed in not a Xeon processor, unless I'm mistaken.

Man I almost turned that setting off to see if it would work and now reading this 4 hours later should of trusted the gut lol

I really have nothing but good things to say about Microcenter so I'm pretty confident we can get this figured out tomorrow, but like you said I will definitely call ahead, especially with it being Black Friday and all. (I go to the Marietta GA, location)

I would also prefer to resolve this without Asus if possible, but I do agree I feel as though the Board is just bad.

Thank you for all your help though! I'll post tomorrow on this forum hopefully bearing good news, thanks again!

Yeah when you mentioned Microcenter my first thought was to take it over there and get their help as they usually hire smart techs, and if not you probably are still under Store warranty. But I'd call ahead to see how helpful they're willing to be as it varies in different stores (I go to Cambridge MA)

If not then you can invoke Asus warranty to get it fixed by them which is more of a hassle.

If there is NO dropdown menu with other SATA choices than RAID then it may be a bad board, BIOS flash or Update.

Hi Davon. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

What are the other choices for SATA controller settings as you're not showing them.

The Windows 10 standard is AHCI so that would be the first choice, followed by SATA and in rare cases RAID is the SATA controller setting.

If you are still under warranty then Asus needs to help you configure this due to complications added by Optane, IRST, etc. It is not satisfactory for their tech to tell you it "ought to be there." At that point I'd ask for escalation or a supervisor. Since you've updated the BIOS if there isn't an AHCI or SATA setting and if RAID is not the SATA setting for your mobo, then they need to fix or replace it under warranty.

Do you know how this started? Was it a Windows Update or the BIOS update? Have you tried resetting BIOS to defaults? Is UEFI enabled, CSM disabled, Secure Boot on (try turning it off to see if that helps), Windows Boot Manager set first to boot?

If it's installed in Legacy CSM and you have the modern UEFI BIOS, then you need to reinstall anyway in UEFI mode. But Asus needs to help you get the SATA controller setting for WIndows 10 and 11 configured.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Please report back results for all steps given so I know what else to suggest if necessary.
