Cannot open external Seagate Expansion Drive after Windows 11 update - Kernel-PnP Information Event ID 400 and 410 and Warning Event ID 442

I recently updated to Windows 11 and although I can see my Seagate device in Disk Management, and it says it is 'Healthy and Active', I cannot open it. I have updated all disk drivers through Windows Update and Seagate drivers.

How do I know if the drive is corrupt or whether the Windows 11 update is wrong and what can I do?

You are not alone. My Seagate External drives were working great and still are except that they are not showing up in File Explorer. No problems until the update.

Hi Laura. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

The drive looks healthy except for the right click menu not working, you should normally in such a case be able to issue a drive letter. Since the menu item is not there, try issuing a drive letter using Diskpart from Command prompt, and if that fails from a free Partition Manager like Aoemi which provides the following tutorial:

    https://www.diskpart.com/diskpart/assign-drive-...

If it still won't open after assigning the letter, run a full Disk Check to fix the file system: https://allthings.how/how-to-run-chkdsk-in-wind...

If that is not enough find out the condition for sure using drive diagnostics:

    Other possible fixes here:

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on detailed results you post back I will have other suggestions if necessary.

    Hi,

The option to Explore is greyed out.

    Thanks

    Laura

Hi, I'm Elise, and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

Would you be able to take a screenshot of disk management? Also do you get an option to explore if you right click the drive in the disk management app?

    Kind Regards,
    Elise
