windows update suddenly offering extremely outdated drivers for devices with most recent drivers already installed

a quick check for windows updates today suddenly revealed a huge list of driver updates, of which none are actual updates, but extremely outdated drivers.

drivers for intel chipset components from 2017 (currently installed ones from 2022), a very old nvidia gpu driver (latest one installed), even my laptop's currently installed bios version is offered as an "update", and some other drivers, all of which currently have far newer versions installed.

did something happen on windows update's side, or is it something on my laptop's side? shall i just wait and see whether these updates disappear again, or how can i manually set them to ignore?

some intel drivers sometimes are offered "updates", because their date is 18.07.1968 in device manager, but these are actually current 2022 drivers. but all other drivers mentioned above even have their date from 2022 and their far higher versions correctly displayed in device manager, so i really wonder why suddenly windows update offers me far outdated "updates" for them.

any help? thanks!

windows 10 enterprise, 22h2

    The tool I suggested is for hiding driver updates as well. I've used it for this purpose before.

    But I remember once that using the tool, the driver updates didn't appear either, so I left it to solve later.

    When I took the time to solve the issue, driver updates were no longer listed on Windows Update. Perhaps the same will happen to you.

    Personally, I prefer not to install the drivers offered on Windows Update. That's why I disabled driver updates.

    If you want, you can do the same.

    Do the following to disable driver updates:

    1. Press "Windows + R", type sysdm.cpl and press Enter;
    2. Select the "Hardware" tab;
    3. Select "Device Installation Settings";
    4. Select "No (your device may not work as expected);
    5. Click "Save Changes" and then "Ok".
    6. Restart your PC.

    In some cases, the above procedure is not enough. If it keeps showing up, you should be able to disable it using GPEDIT.

    Using the Local Group Policy Editor (GPEDIT):

    1. Press "Windows + R", type gpedit.msc and press Enter;
    2. In the left pane, navigate to the following path: "Computer Configuration> Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage updates offered from Windows Update";
    3. Find "Do not include drivers with Windows Updates" and double-click to edit;
    4. Select "Enabled", click "Apply" and then "Ok".
    5. Restart the PC.

    This behavior has happened to me. More than once. Maybe it's a bug in Windows Update. But I'm not sure about that.

    Let me know if it persists.

    Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    It happens sometimes. I suggest that you do not try to install these drivers. Usually, there is even an error in the update when trying to install these old drivers that are suggested by Windows Update.

    Preferably, install only the drivers provided on the device manufacturer's website.

    You can use Microsoft's "Show or Hide updates" tool to hide the updates. Download from the link below.

    https://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f...

    You may need to restart your computer or wait a few minutes for the updates to be removed from the Windows Update list.

    Feel free to ask back any questions.

    Win10 has always done that

    For a branded PC you update from that makers support site

    hi, thanks, but this tool unfortunately didnt recognize any updates that can be hidden, i think it is only supposed to hide windows updates, not driver updates.

    i never had any issues with installing generic/manufacturers' drivers over OEM ones, on the contrary, issues/performance mostly are fixed/better when using the most recent (generic) drivers instead of the mostly far outdated laptop manufacturers ones. and i dont have any issues with the drivers themselves, the issue is with windows update suddenly offering me far outdated drivers to overwrite already perfectly working current drivers.

    ill wait and hope these "updates" disappear again as suddenly as they appeared today, patch tuesday is soon anyway.
