Hey all,
I think I have the solution that will help many
My Current gear: Canon ip7260 and an Intel NUC M15 Laptop (Using a dell TB4 dock WD22TB4).
IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PRINTER USB CABLE UNTIL STEP 7 OR THIS WON’T WORK
Please follow these steps
- (If printer USB is connected (Unplug the USB cable and leave it unplugged)
- remove any software from the PC and restart your computer (Press the windows key, then type remove and select “add and remove programs”), find canon software and remove.
- Remove any drivers from device manager: (Press the windows key and type “device manager” and select “Device manager”. In device manager scroll down to “Universal Bus Controllers” and expand. Right click “Canon iP7200 series” and select “uninstall device” (you may see a different series number if you have a different printer).
- Restart your PC
- Reset printer spooler in windows: (Press Windows key + R, then type “Services” and select “Services”. Scroll down the list until you see “Print Spooler”, right click on it, and select stop. Once stopped simply right click again on it and press start.
- Restart your computer
- Next plug in your printer USB-cable (preferred directly to PC, not a dock). You will hear the normal USB connected sound. If you have volume on and do not hear the sound (normal sound when plugging in a USB stick, check your cable)
- Update Windows: Press the windows key and type “updates” and select “View optional updates”. Expand “Driver updates” and click the checkbox next to the Canon update.
- Once update is complete, reset your PC
- You should now be able to print. If it gives you a connection error dialogue in the print box, unplug your USB cable and re-plug it in to the same USB port. This should now be fully resolved. If not, you may wish to try the process again using a different USB port. Print a test page and if it works go to next step
- You may now install any SOFTWARE ONLY packages from Canon. DO NOT INSTALL ANY DRIVERS FOR YOUR PRINTER FROM CANON!
Conclusion: The issue is with Canon and not windows. Given many printers with this issue have generic cartridges for ~$1 each, canon wants them gone.
This is my first major solution, and it took me a few hours of thinking, so please be nice and hopefully this will help you.
