Windows 11 winload efi missing, F8 button not working

Hello,

My HP is not starting up. I’ve received the ‘winload efi is missing or corrupt’. All the troubleshoot steps require me to go into startup settings but in order for me to do that, I have to press F8 however when I do press it my screen flashes and it doesn’t take me there (this is on the blue ‘recovery’ screen with the error message). Can anyone help me please. I need to get back into my laptop. I can’t afford to reinstall the OS. Too much important files and data that I didn’t back up unfortunately .

PS. My photos are failing to load so I could show the screens that I have been stuck on

The blue error screen:

Recovery

Your PC/Device needs to be repaired

The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or

contains errors.

File: \windows\system32\winload.efi

Error code: Oxc0000225

You'll need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.

Press Enter to try again

Press F1 to enter Recovery Environment

Press F8 for Startup Settings

Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings

Many times when the chkdsk error message "It Is Write Protected" is seen it indicates partition problems.

If you need to backup important files and cannot there may be options.

    Hi Craig, thanks for responding.

I’ve tried triggering safe mode by turning off the laptop three times like the article suggests but it doesn’t work. After it’s on the HP logo screen with ‘preparing automatic repair’ at the bottom, it goes back to the blue screen. If I press F1 on that screen, it goes to the logo page with ‘please wait’ at the bottom then back to the blue screen

Make tools that you can use to backup files, reinstall windows, and test the hardware

    1. Find a flash drive that you can format (> or = 8 GB).

On a working computer create a bootable Windows Media Creation Tool (MCT) (Windows 11 iso).

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/create-windows-11-bootable-usb-installation-media.750/ https://www.elevenforum.com/t/download-official-windows-11-iso-file-from-microsoft.1009/

    https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11

    1. On any bootable flash drive with free space, install HP UEFI hardware diagnostics:

    https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp141501-142000/sp141572.exe

    1. Insert the bootable flash drive with the HP UEFI hardware diagnostics in an applicable USB port

Power on the computer and repetitively click F9.

Open the HP UEFI hardware diagnostics > system > extensive > loop until error > run overnight or at any time so that there are two or more loops > if there was stop with error message and / or code then click esc > take pictures displaying the test performed with results > post images or share links into this thread

For share links please use one drive, drop box, or google drive

    1. If the UEFI hardware diagnostics displays pass for all components then boot the computer using the Windows 11 MCT

Insert the bootable flash drive into the applicable port > power on the computer > repetitively click F9

Open Windows Recovery Environment (RE) > troubleshoot > command prompt

    Type these commands:

    bcdedit /enum all

    bcdedit || find "osdevice"

    diskpart

    lis dis

    lis vol

    sel dis 0

    det dis

    lis par

    sel par 1

    det par

    sel par 2

    det par

    sel par 3

    det par

    sel par 4

    det par

    sel par 5

    det par

    sel par 6

    det par

    sel dis 1

    det dis

    lis par

Take pictures > post images or share links displaying the commands with results into this thread

For share links please use one drive, drop box, or google drive.
