Indexing Options File Explorer

Hi Everybody,

I'm having a problem with the "Indexing Options/Advanced/File Types". Namely that this screen is blank. There are no files listed. I've tried reindexing, troubleshooting, sfc, Dism, restoring to a previous state etc, all to no avail. There are just no files listed to adjust. I suspect that the problem lies within my Profile settings and not the Windows system since when I log on under any another profile, all the File Types reappear.

Any help that can be given will be greatly appreciated since all my efforts have ended in failure.

    Luiz suggests trying to repair. Problem is you say you already tried rebuilding. Sometimes you can only start fresh regardless of what you want.

    Dear neil,but the suggestions I sent you are exactly to try to repair your profile;

    I didn't suggest trying to create a new profile, I just suggested trying to recreate the search index;

    Rebuild search index;

    Open the Control Panel;

    Click View by: and change to large icons;

    Click Indexing Options;

    Click Advanced;

    Click recreate;

    Check if you are updated with the latest version of Windows 10;

    Press Windows key + i and go to Update and Security;

    Click Check for updates and do ALL pending updates;

    Restart Windows Explorer;

    Press together the keys: Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager;

    Click on Processes and locate Windows Explorer;

    Right-click and select the Restart option;

    Run the system file checker;

    Press the Windows + X keys, select Command Prompt (Admin), copy and paste the commands below and press enter after each command.

    Sfc /ScanNow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

    Wait for the process to finish and restart the pc;

    Check if the problem persists;

    I hope I helped, even more!

    Thanks for your suggestions but I need some way to repair the existing profile. For various reasons there would be a great deal of work involved in creating a new profile then transferring across everything needed. However it may come to that unless I can find a method of repair.

    You already solved it. Create a new user for yourself and switch everything over and install all missing applications. Done.
