Why my folder templates never apply ?

Hello,

I'm using windows 11, before in windows 10 I used to change and apply folder template on my folders and subfolders also (Folder view option).

However, since I moved to windows 11, none of my template and changes to my template are saved or even took into consideration by windows 11 OS.

It's like I'm clicking on buttons that doesn't have a function yet and it's starting to get on my nerves because for some folders that contain videos, normal files or pictures, I have to every time change manually the folder view/details (columns) to my liking.

I have been waiting in vain for many updates to come before even thinking of making a thread on this.

#1 : Do you have the same problem ?

#2 : Did you find a fix to this problem ?

#3 : How can I report this issue in a way where I can have a estimated time before fix and a way of following this process ?

Thanks for reading, I tried my best to describe my issue as best as I could.

    Hello KaliPZ,

If you check the "Also apply this template to all subfolders" box in the properties of the folder Documents, it will only take effect for subfolders of the current folder.

If you want to change all the folders of the same type, you may want to do the following.

Windows+E to open File Explorer > click "Options" > switch to "View" tab > set the relevant options in the advanced settings > then click "Apply to Folders "This way the folders of the same type will be changed according to your settings.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Hello,

Thanks for all the answers, too bad it doesn't apply to even further down folders, yes I already know how to change the view for the same type but that's not my goal. If I have a folder full of music, I'll have to open the first folder, change his type to music, then apply to subfolders, but If I have albums that has multiple folders in it I'll have to change to type of them too because they are not the subfolders (index 0 kind of). Unless you know how to do that, you can close the thread as I think I don't have the rights.

    Best Regards

    Hello KaliPZ,

Thank you for your reply, I am glad you solved the problem after using the above method.

I tested the issue again and usually after you click the Apply to Folders button, it applies to all folders of the same type.

I suggest you to try again.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Hello Lenka,

After inputting those 4 commands it worked again. Also I do have another question, when I click on apply to all subfolders, does it apply to only the children of the folder or does it apply to the children of the children .. of the main folder ? It looks like that it only applies the template for the first children.

    Thanks a lot ! 😊

    Hello KaliPZ,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Let me help you with this issue.

I tried testing this issue on a different computer and it did not reproduce.

What is the current system version of your computer? Windows+R type "Winver" and press enter to check the version number.

I suggest you first try to repair your system by using the following command to scan the code.

Press Windows Logo + X at the same time to start Windows PowerShell (Administrator) and execute the following commands separately, make sure to execute the next command after the previous one is finished, restart the computer after execution to confirm.

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

    SFC /scannow

If you still can't solve the problem after the above operation, I suggest you try to create a new local administrator account and log in.

    Create a local user account

    1. Select StartSettingsAccountsand then select Family & other users. (In some versions of Windows you'll see Other users.)
    2. Next to Add other user, select Add account.
    3. Select I don't have this person's sign-in information, and on the next page, select Add a user without a Microsoft account.
    4. Enter a user name, password, or password hint—or choose security questions—and then select Next.

Open Settings and create another account

Change a local user account to an administrator account

    1. Select StartSettings>Accounts.
    2. Under Family & other users, select the account owner name (you should see "Local account" below the name), then select Change account type.

**Note:**If you choose an account that shows an email address or doesn't say "Local account", then you're giving administrator permissions to a Microsoft account, not a local account.

    1. Under Account type, select Administrator, and then select OK.
    2. Sign in with the new administrator account.

Click here Create a local user or administrator account in Windowsfor more detailed

If it works fine under the new administrator account then there may be a problem with the user profile under your old account.

Click Fix a corrupted user profile in Windows

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.
