Gamebar Mic Quality Issues

Whenever I use the gamebar on my PC to join a party chat with my friends on Xbox I am told the mic quality has a ton of feedback in combination with sounding like being underwater. I tested the mic on discord and some recording software and the mic sounded perfectly normal and clear. I then tried plugging in another mic with the same result of terrible quality on game bar but good quality everywhere else. Does anyone know a fix? I have tried resetting the settings on gamebar and that did nothing. Also tested plugging my mic into my series X and it had 0 issues in party chat on there.

    Hi Brian Satterwhite,

I've found a method that works, and it's worth a try if your problem still isn't solved.

    1. Right click on the sound icon in the bottom right corner of the taskbar -- Sound,
    2. Click the "Record" TAB in the sound window, double-click your microphone icon to enter the microphone properties page,
    3. Click the "Advanced" TAB and change the sampling frequency and bit depth to the one at the bottom (highest sound quality) in the default format.
    4. Then decide to quit and try again to see if the microphone quality improves.

managed to fix this issue for myself, just make sure you change these setting back and forth if you're using discord etc...

    1. Right click on your speaker on task bar
    2. Click on sounds
    3. Go across to recordings
    4. Right click microphone and go to properties, then go to advance
    5. change default format to the highest Hz quality

this worked for me, hope it helps

It is connected with an input aux cable. It does not have a “hands free” or “stereo” audio option. Just a “High Definition Audio Device”. My microphone quality on gamebar party chat has stayed awful but on discord I still sound perfectly normal.

    Hi Brian Satterwhite,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

May I ask how the microphone you use is connected to the computer? After opening the Xbox Game Bar, click the sound icon - Sound in the lower right corner of the taskbar to check whether the microphone name in the output device has "hands-free" or "stereo" these two names. If so, please try "hands-free" to see if the quality of your voice chat improves.

In addition, you can also click here to follow the steps to fix the microphone problem and do a basic troubleshooting.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,
