Bluetooth/ android phone not connecting to my laptop

Hi all,

I have recently bought both a new phone and a laptop. My new and old phones are both Samsung, though the old one is an A12, and the new one is an A13. My old laptop is an old HP one and my new one is an HP Envy x360 laptop.

My problem is that both phones are able to pair to my laptops, however, they are unable to connect to my laptops.

I have been on the HP website and downloaded all necessary drivers onto my new laptop, and also been on the troubleshooter settings page, which has not helped at all as the new phone is still unable to connect to my new laptop.

Another problem is that I have the provided Samsung USB-C to USB-C wire and when it is connected to my phone, it charges but it does not show up on the windows files manager, and I know that it is not a cable problem. I had the same issue with a different cable and both old devices so I am lost.

    Hello anonymous0365,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

For your Bluetooth issue, check if your Bluetooth device is detected as an unknown device in Windows:

Press Windows logo key + R at the same time on your keyboard > type shell:::{A8A91A66-3A7D-4424-8D24-04E180695C7A} and press Enter key on your keyboard. If your Bluetooth device becomes unknown device indeed, right click on it > Select Properties. If you can find Services tab, uncheck all the options in this tab and re-select them again, and see if there will be any difference.

Here are other things you can do:

    • Make sure your Bluetooth device is in range. If your Bluetooth device is unresponsive or sluggish, check to make sure it’s not too close to any other USB device that’s plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Unshielded USB devices can sometimes interfere with Bluetooth connections.
    • Remove the Bluetooth device, then add it again.
    • Uninstall the Bluetooth adapter in Device Manager, and then reinstall it.

Detailed steps can be found in Fix Bluetooth problems in Windows.

For your USB issue, make sure you've connected your USB device as an external drive to transport files, not just for charging. More troubleshooting steps for USB issues can be found in Fix USB-C problems in Windows.

If you've updated Windows or drivers recently, go back to your previous version of Windows and drivers and try again. Download an older version of Windows and drivers from your PC manufacturer if you are unable to do so.

In addition, try resetting BIOS to factory default settings. Sometimes, Bluetooth or USB problems can be caused by outdated or incorrect BIOS settings. It is recommended to reset the BIOS to the factory default settings. You may need to contact your PC manufacturer about how to do so.

If you've tried the steps in this article or don't see a solution to the problem, contact HP and Samsung for assistance:

Include specific details about what you were doing when the problem occurred. For example, if you started having Bluetooth problems after updating Windows or changing Windows versions, include this info.
