i am having this issue for the first time, Why can't windows leave alone? when drivers are on a machine, find them and pass on!!
Windows 11: Behringer UMC202HD not working, and listed multiple times in Device Manager. Drivers not recognized?
I use a Behringer UMC202HD as an audio output device.
After upgrade to Windows 11, it worked for a while, stopped working, worked again, and now has stopped working again.
The device is recognized by Windows:
- Visible (and can be selected) via taskbar speaker icon
- Visible (and can be selected) as speaker in the device settings of Teams
- Visible (and can be selected) as speaker in Zoom
When selected, however, it does not work:
- When UMC202HD selected (via taskbar speaker icon) prior to start of Youtube-video, Youtube will show the "I'm thinking" circle (the successor to the hourglass), and not progress.
Video will start as soon as other speakers are selected, with sound on those other speakers. - When UMC202HD selected (via taskbar speaker icon) during a Youtube-video, Youtube will show the "I'm thinking" circle on top of the video (which will continue to run), and not provide any sound.
When selection changed back to other speakers, circle will disappear, and sound will re-appear (on those other speakers).
Video will freeze for a while, and then resume (in sync with audio) - When UMC202HD selected as speaker in Teams, there will be no sound, and the message "Your speakers aren't working" will appear after a while
I disconnected the device (physically), removed it from Windows (after that: device no longer visible in Device Manager), installed the latest drivers (version 5.51) using the Behringer-provided setup.exe. I then reconnected the device. Still not working.
Weird thing (but it may be standard behaviour): the UMC202HD appears four times in Device Manager:
- In folder "Audio inputs and outputs" as "IN 1-2 (BEHRINGER UMC 202HD 192k)" and "IN 1-2 (BEHRINGER UMC 202HD 192k)", with message "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device" (when clicking the Driver Details button)
- In folder "BEHRINGER USB 2.0 Audio" as "BEHRINGER UMC 202HD 192k", with driver
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\umc_audio.sys
- In folder "Sound video and game controllers" as "BEHRINGER UMC 202HD 192k", with 6 drivers
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\dmk.sys
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ksthunk.sys
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\portcls.sys
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\umc_audioks.sys
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\SysFxUI.dll
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\WMALFXGFXDSP.DLL
As a comparison, I checked another (working) audio device (an MXL USB microphone). It appeared twice:
- In folder "Audio inputs and outputs" as "Microphone (10- USB audio CODEC)", with message
- "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device" (when clicking the Driver Details button)
- In folder "Sound video and game controllers" as "USB audio CODEC", with 6 drivers:
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\dmk.sys
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ksthunk.sys
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\portcls.sys
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\USBAUDIO.sys (only one different from the UMC202HD)
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\SysFxUI.dll
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\WMALFXGFXDSP.DLL
Two questions:
- Is the extra listing (in folder "BEHRINGER USB 2.0 Audio") standard behaviour for devices with drivers that require device-specific drivers)?
- Is there a solution to get the UMC202HD working again?

2022-11-09T05:49:11+00:00 Hi
Welcome to Microsoft community.
I'm glad to help you.
According to your description, your problem may be caused by Behringer UMC202 driver, but at present, it is unknown what causes the problem.
To better judge your problem, you can create a new local administrator account configuration and check whether the problem disappears. It is ruled out that the problem is caused by account configuration or other program interference.
You can also connect your current Behringer UMC202 into other windows11 computers, and check whether the problem disappears? This can check if there is a problem with your computer.
Questions about the drive and location in Device Manager. I am not a professional. I cannot confirm whether your Behringer UMC202 is in normal status. You need to consult the Behringer UMC202 manufacturer's support personnel.
Looking forward to your further information.
Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
Best regards
