So, ive had this problem for a couple months now and only got around to asking about it now. Basically whenever I download something on windows 10 most of the time it just puts it in other sections like "A long time ago", "yesterday", "earlier this week" but never shows that it was downloaded today. No I haven't changed any settings.

Hi Blue. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

The way to get the latest files to show up at top is to open Downloads folder, from View tab choose Sort by, then choose Date Created and Descending.

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/34895-chang...

From Group By tab choose None to get rid of the annoying groups.

To save this as a Folder view: https://mywindowshub.com/how-to-apply-a-folders...

    If it won't save: https://techcult.com/fix-folder-view-settings-n...

Report back results for each step so I know what else to suggest.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

    I am doing something wrong.
    Here is today's download (12/17).
I get two file references when I search the folder using the folder link from the browser.
One that includes the reference to APOD and one that shows the filename I expected.
I can apparently open both files.
BUT when I use File Explorer, I only get the 2006 file reference.
What is going on? Some setting on Downloads (I am specifying the folder) One Drive?

Thanks for the reply man, but I did what you said. It still sends newly downloaded files to the bottom. Only occasionally does it actually order it properly.

Did you click the column heading for Date Modified until the recent files are at the top (under Folders?). Then save it as a template for that file type as shown in https://mywindowshub.com/how-to-apply-a-folders...

This problem is happening to me, too.
I'm downloading files from Astronomy Picture of the Day.
The download files used to always have the download/modified date as the download date.
Now AS17-137-20979.jpg (3879×3879) (nasa.gov) seems to have metadata (?) of 2006 and it was originally downloaded as 2006 but now that I havee touched it aa few times it shows today (12/16).

A download should exist for every day between 12/9 and 12/16, and they do they are just scattered around in the folder by the metadata date.
I review the data by soring by date in case I miss a download. When I don't see a 12/10 download then I go back to APOD to get it, only to have the download pop-up tell me there's already a file by that name. And it is the correct file but, because of the unwelcome date stuff, I cannot find it.
