Difference between game capture settings "Record the last __" and "Maximum recording length"?

I like using game capture to clip my games when playing on PC. But I'm confused at two different settings: "record the last ___" and "maximum recording length." I thought that the "record the last..." setting was for when you clipped something, how long the clip would be, e.g. when you pressed the capture button, it saves the last X minutes of gameplay. But when I messed around with this, I found that it just didn't record the amount of time that it said it was supposed to.

But what I'm really confused about is the "Record this: maximum recording length" setting. Is this saying that it will allow you to use the capture button until you've been playing for that long? Or is it something different from captures, or is it saying to record the entire last 0.5-4 hours of gameplay? What does it mean?

    You can disable game DVR completely not just a portion of it.

    If you are being confused regarding the second option being on every time it is not. You need to enable it via the shortcut (win + alt + r by default but this can be customizable) for it to start recording.

    I am Jaspreet Singh.
    Record last __ option saves the last moments (amount of time defined by the user) of the game play. Do note that background recording needs to be enabled for this function.

    Maximum recording length as the name suggests will record the length of the gameplay as set by you in the record length but this is calculated from game play start not from end.
