Everything on my PC keeps crashing randomly with "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" error

I own this laptop for over a year - Lenovo Legion 5. Solid, powerful machine.

It has been running pretty well from the very moment i started it up the first time, but I couldn't help but notice that some games were crashing from time to time - games, which never crashed before on my older and less powerful laptop. I didn't worry much because crashes were pretty rare, sometimes happening around once a week at most, which wasn't enought to make me bother. I just assumed it was some weird driver causing that, and didn't take it seriously.

But year after, crashes became so frequent, that I couldn't just ignore it anymore. Sometimes game could work for hours just fine, or it might crash within 10 minutes. And it weren't just games that are crashing - my Chrome tabs sometimes crash, forcing a page reload, my Blender application might crash, games crash randomly that are rock solid and shouldn't crash at all.

So I started diagnosing my laptop for hardware issues:

  1. I ran "sfc /scannow" in CMD, it initially found some issues and fixed them, but it did nothing to stop crashing issue. After that running same command yields no results as it claims everything is fine and there is nothing to fix.
  2. I checked my RAM memory with Memtest86 several times. No issues were found, same goes for using Windows Memory Diagnostic tool. It found no issues.
  3. I checked my GPU with Furmark by doing 30 min stress test, and it passed it flawlessly.
  4. I replaced my 2x8GB Samsung RAM sticks (original Lenovo parts) with Kingston 8GB one I bought recently. Crashes did not stop.
  5. I went on and disabled AMD TPM, because it was casuing some heavy stutter for 1-2 sec every once in a while. I didn't notice any effect on crashing from that, but it was long ago, so I am not really sure.
  6. I reinstalled Windows while keeping personal files, and it didn't fix the issue either.

Aside from doing factory reset, what else can I do? I wouldn't want to do that because I have tons of work, study and other personal data I need to transfer and simply bother with for that purpose.

Just to recap: I have an issue where apps, browser and games crash with same "ACCESS VIOLATION" error that means that said app/browser/game tried to read/write data to some unrecognized/unauthorized memory block and it caused a crash. I cannot find an root of the problem, multiple tests say that my RAM is just fine, I even tried replacing it with one I bought, and it didn't help. I reinstalled Windows, and it didn't help either. I have no idea what else is there I can do...

Some help would be really appreciated .

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

    I'm glad to help you.

From your description, it seems that you have tested most of them, and the problem still exists.

In order to better judge your problem, I would appreciate it if you could tell me the configuration of your computer. Such as cpu, memory, etc.

Have you considered your STATUS_ ACCESS_ VIOLATION may be caused by hardware acceleration or hard disk problems.

You can try the following steps to turn off hardware acceleration and completely uninstall and reinstall your graphics driver.

1: Press the Windows and R keys at the same time to open the Run dialog box.

2: In the Run box, type regedit and click OK.

type regedit in the Run box

3: Copy and paste HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Avalon.Graphics to the address bar to open it.

**4:**Find DisableHWAcceleration on the right pane. If you cannot find DisableHWAcceleration, you can create one: right-click the empty space on the right pane and click New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it DisableHWAcceleration.

5: Double-click DisableHWAcceleration and set its value to 1 to disable Hardware Acceleration on your Windows 10.

6: Click OK to save the setting then reboot your pc.

Use some hard disk detection tools to check whether your hard disk has any health problems. If the hard disk partition is damaged, the problem will also occur. You can also install your game by replacing it with a hard disk partition to check whether the problem disappears.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best regards
