Video games won't launch, problems with restarting and shuting down

99% of video games I own, both from steam and not, which used to work just fine, suddenly won't launch. Didn't change or download anything new. If I restart the computer, I can launch them and play them just fine but if I close the game or even leave it in the background for some time it will stop responding and I will become unable to launch it again until I restart the computer. the laptop is relatively new, less than a year old I believe. Also, when I restart, it takes for ever and I have to force it to turn off or it will go on forever - this only happened once the problem with the video games appeared. I have tried both regular turning off and booting into safe mode but while is appeared the laptop was on, the screen was blank and only forcing a shut down then turning on let it work normally. Tried using DISM restorehealth - did not solve the issue.

    I apologize that i am writing using machine translation.

    I too have suffered from this problem for several years, 95% of my games and apps like Bluestacks would not launch and I was also worried about damage to my hardware as I could not shut down and reboot without forcing the power off. But I finally discovered the cause today!

    When this problem starts, the game seems to stop the process during the launch process (loading dlls, etc.). So I tried using ProcessMonitor, thinking that if I could find the last dll that was trying to load, it might help solve the problem.

    Then I found that it stopped after loading the "xinput" dll file... Yes, I always have an Xbox360 (very old) controller plugged into my PC. I pulled it out and plugged it in. My games are now up and running!

    Hello LeoZ.A, welcome to the Microsoft community, I'll be happy to help you today;

    I understand that you are having problems playing some games on your PC;

    What exactly is the laptop model and manufacturer?

    What exactly is the model and manufacturer of your video card?

    Initially I recommend that you check if you are updated with the latest version of Windows 10;

    Press Windows key + i and go to Update and Security;

    Click Check for updates and do ALL pending updates;

    Repeat this process until you see the message "You are up to date":

    run a disk cleanup;

    Press Windows key + R and type: cleanmgr press Enter;

    Click on clean system files and wait for the files to load;

    Select all files and click ok to delete them;

    Perform a clean boot;

    Press together the keys: Ctrl + Shift + Esc to access the task manager;

    Click on start and disable all programs that start with Windows;

    Restart the PC and try to open the games;

    Hope this helps, see you soon!

    I have the exact same problem and haven't found an answer for about a year.

    The problem is more likely to occur the longer the pc is left running.

    Only way to fix is to unplug / hard reset and turn back on.
