Can OneDrive act like a regular drive as GoogleDrive can. I also have a 2nd question about syncing.

Google drive acts just like a regular hard drive and gives a letter and everything mine is G:. The question I have is can OneDrive do the same or does it only work as a folder?

I'm also having issues with the sync feature. I installed windows 10 onto a new hard drive but it didn't restore my desktop picture or my theme and other settings. Yes, I have it turned on. I've been working at this for a couple of days now. My hard drive went down somehow it is seen as a 0.0gb drive in bios windows even sees the drive and asks me to initialize it but it doesn't work. So I have no choice but to reinstall windows, I can't figure out why windows isn't syncing onto the new windows installation like it did when I signed into my laptop . I'm just not sure what else to do to get my settings over to the new installation. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

It's still possible to map OneDrive ... but Microsoft would prefer that we didn't.

To Microsoft, OneDrive is considered to be part of the operating system, so files in OneDrive can be accessed directly from Windows. This is similar to the way Google Drive works with ChromeOS. With Windows, however, Google Drive has to me mapped.

You can find directions for mapping OneDrive on the internet, like here: How to map OneDrive to a drive letter in Windows 11 / 10. But to be honest, it's better not to work against Microsoft's design for Windows, so I believe Emily S726 gave you the best answer.

    Hello there, this is Emily.

Answer for your question 1 > Unfortunately OneDrive is set up as a folder only. It cannot be assigned driver letter like Google drive does.

Question 2 > OneDrive is for files only, not for syncing settings (background photos, themes, etc). This is actually a different feature via Windows. To have your Windows settings synced among your devices, you need to make sure all of these devices are using the same Microsoft account as your Windows log in. And make sure the "Synced your Settings" is turned on all the devices. Here is the instruction regarding this feature: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/abo...

My apologies that I might have misunderstood your original question.

Let me make sure I have all the facts here.

The laptop got a new harddrive, and you had to do a clean install of Windows 10 into this harddrive. And you cannot get this new installed Windows to show your desktop PC's settings, is that right?

Follow up question for you - On the laptop Windows, when you go to Settings, does it say anything about Windows not activated?

On the desktop Windows, is it running Windows 10 or 11?

Any idea on how I can reclaim my Onedrive hijacked folders? I had to install windows on a 120gb SSD it's all I have around for the moment so I have to move my library folders to a different drive. The problem is One drive has hijacked them and they are unmovable uninstalling onedrive didn't work. I need to move folders like the my Picture folder to another drive. Its usually an easy process right click properties location move but when I look at the location of some of these hijacked folders there path reads like this C:\users\koolb\onedrive/pictures with no way to relocate. This install is giving me nothing but damn problems.

OK, different feature same question it is not syncing my settings or theme like it did when I used my laptop. I can't figure out why that is the case. I only came here hoping I could find someone smarter than I am to give me an idea to what could be wrong or what could cause this. I was certain that Windows should sync to any computer I sign into, is this wrong? I booted my laptop hard drive in my computer and I made sure all of the sync setting were on than I left it running all night in hopes it would all sync everything, it didn't work and now I'm at a loss. I really like my old theme and the wall paper that is on my laptop harddrive but I cant find it, I don't think I should have to find it and do it manually, because at some point it should sync my settings, passwords and themes, right?
