Transfer Windows 11 Pro Upgrade to new computer

Hi

Back in April 2022 I decided to upgrade my Windows 11 Home to Pro on my stationary computer.

I did so by buying the upgrade in the Microsoft Store App.

The installation / upgrade went smooth.
The only communication from Microsoft that I got was a receipt of the purchase via email. This email does not include any product license key. And from what I have understood, this is normal when you purchase an upgrade through the store.

But it also means that I have no idea what that product key is.

For various reasons I now needed to replace my desktop with a laptop.

The new laptop came with Windows 11 Home installed on it and naturally I want to transfer my Pro upgrade to this new computer.

But even if I go in to the Microsoft Store App and go to the Windows 11 Pro Upgrade product, it only shows that I can either buy it (again) or I can select that I already have a product key, which I don't.

So how exactly can I transfer my Pro Upgrade license to my new laptop and take it off my old computer (if that is required?).

Cheers

    Hi Rickard,

Microsoft Support can be har to contact.

    3

Click the 'Contact Support' button at the bottom

    4

Select Microsoft 365 and Office, then set Category to 'Activate My Product'

    Hi Rickard71_852,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

The Windows Pro upgrade licence upgrades the underlying Home licence, if your Windows 11 Home was base on a pre-installed OWM) Home licence, then the resulting upgrade results in Windows 11 Pro OEM which does not have transfer rights to another PC.

However, Microsoft do usually allow you to transfer the Pro upgrade licence once, Community is just a user to user form, so the best option is to contact Microsoft Support to ask them to allow you to upgrade the new device to the Pro version.

    Hi Rickard,

If you need to re-install Windows, download and create a bootable USB and install the version that is activated at the time and that will auto-activate.

    Hi

    Thank you for your response.

Unfortunately there does not seem to be any way I can contact Microsoft support.

If I go to the Microsoft Support Contact Us webpage then I have to select the product.

When I pick “Windows” then I get the options “Get support for Home” or “Get support for Business”.

If I select for “Home” then I only get the community option which is where I am at now with this question.

If I select “Business” then I have to purchase a support contract to get help.

I tried to call support number for Sweden and selected “Home user” then I was informed that they had “moved all the support online”.

I’m at a loss on where to turn here really.

I have no clue how to contact Microsoft...

    Cheers

    Rickard
