What are some advantages of using Google Assistant vs Cortana on a Windows PC?

I'm looking for a voice assistant to run on my Desktop, and am just wondering if going through the unconventional installation guide of Google Assistant on my computer is worth it compared to just running Cortana which comes built-in to Windows 10 by default.

Are there any advanced voice commands that the Windows version of Google Assistant can do which Cortana cannot? For example: Would it be possible to do things like create reminders using Google Assistant on Windows which sync with my other Google Assistant enabled devices?

I use Google Assistant on both my Android smartphone and tablet, and in general am fairly well integrated into the Google ecosystem.

I do not believe the Google Assistant has any ability to interact with WIndows at all, and from all I have read researching this for you, I would not use Google Assistant on PC but instead get a Google Mini or other device to set on my desk (and elsewhere in the house), which I have here alongside Amazon Echo and use each multiple times a day for whichever one does the task best. Basically I have Alexa control lights, TV's and devices, and Google for voice search, Calendar and alarms or reminders I also want on my phone.

I have never used Cortana since the times I've tried her she is not ready for prime time, at least not compared to OK Google and Alexa. I have read a few reports of Cortana working for some, but they are few and far between.

    I hope this helps.

Hi Lenny. I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

It takes a workaround to install Google Assistant to Windows, given here:

    https://www.lifewire.com/google-assistant-on-wi...

The article concludes with the suggestion it's better to set up a Google device on the desk next to the PC, which is what I have here along with Alexa.

Microsoft has not completely given up on Cortana, these comparisons explain the strengths and weaknesses of each:

    I hope it helps.

Thanks for the helpful post Greg. Although do you know if it's possible to create reminders with Google Assistant on Windows PC that will sync with my Google account? I set reminders via Google Assistant on both my smartphone and tablet, and regardless on which device I'm using to create the reminder I'll always be notified of the reminder on either device. Does the Windows version of Google Assistant have the same functionality? Also is it possible to open programs on my Windows PC by using Google Assistant?
